Nathaniel Wonderful is an author and translator from the Czech Republic, currently living in Costa Rica. He is interested in psychology, mythology, philosophy, and the structures that shape human behaviour.

As both a writer and reader, he is drawn to stories with strong internal logic, moral complexity, and ideas that linger long after the final page.

Favourite authors and thinkers include Carl Gustav Jung, Paul Radin, Ladislav Fuks, and Tanith Lee.

I've always enjoyed exploring different disciplines and finding connections between them.

I did notice that you're the author of A Bridge Over Trauma, although I haven't had the opportunity to read it yet. I looked it up on Amazon and saw that it's available in paperback. Unfortunately, physical books are difficult for me to obtain here in Costa Rica. International shipping is expensive, and so far not a single parcel from overseas has arrived here.

I was wondering whether your book is also available in a digital format somewhere, or perhaps whether you offer digital review copies in exchange for an honest review. If so, I'd certainly be interested in taking a closer look at your work.(less)

Hi what is your archetype(s)? Have your ever looked at your family tree, via a Genogram, to see the patterns? I studied Jungian psychology and family systems therapy and retired from outpatient therapy practice. I once visited Corcovado National Forest, and Panama--a great time in Montezuma.

I've been fascinated by psychology since high school, when I first discovered Freud and Jung. Unfortunately, many of their works weren't available in my native language, so I couldn't explore them until adulthood. Their ideas also deepened my interest in mythology, something I'd been drawn to since childhood. In fact, the very first book I ever read was a "Dictionary of Classical Antiquity". Archetypes have always intrigued me, and I often draw on them when writing fiction. As for my own personality, I'd probably describe it as a combination of the Sage, Creator, and Ruler. I've always been driven to understand how things work and how seemingly unrelated pieces fit together. When I write, I build my fictional worlds around carefully thought-out structures and rules, much like an architect designing a city. I also have a strong inclination to organize things, think several steps ahead, and consider the consequences of decisions.

According to MBTI, I'm an INTJ (Architect). I also have Asperger's syndrome, aphantasia, and some permanent hearing issues following meningitis at the age of four. All of these play a part in how I experience and make sense of the world.

To be honest, I haven't really explored my family tree or tried constructing a genogram. My father died when I was very young, so I know little about his side of the family, and most of my other relatives passed away before I finished high school. What I do find interesting, though, is how well my wife and I complement each other. I'd say her two dominant archetypes are the Amazon and the Trickster, which makes for quite an interesting combination with my own.

We've been living in Costa Rica for almost six years, though we haven't made it to Corcovado yet. We're on the Caribbean side, so I'm much more familiar with Tortuguero and its maze of canals, wetlands, crocodiles, and birds. Water and boat trips aren't exactly my cup of tea, but I suppose I wouldn't be where I am today if I hadn't learned to face my fears.

We're hoping to move to Japan in the coming years. I lived there before, and I'd love to return.

I'm curious, what first drew you to Jungian psychology? And are there any other thinkers or authors, past or present, who've had a particular influence on you?(less)
