Greta Farrell is an MIT graduate turned poet.

If that's not a fun enough fact for you, she is also a national champion sailor and a D+ league champion intramural ice hockey player. Overthinking and sleeping are two other hobbies of hers, though not quite by choice. Living with anxiety and depression will do that to you.

More often than not, I'll at least I get some writing practice out of them. That's often what starts my creative gears spinning in the background. Before I know it and with some luck, all that subconscious work gives me a whole poem seemingly born from thin air.(less)

looking for a side project

originally posted on LinkedIn

My name is Greta, and I am an MIT graduate turned poet.

Today I convinced myself that writing a book is a professional achievement and not just a side project.

Since my hospitalization in January for severe depression and acute psychosis, I have committed myself to two things–the same ones I told my students at a Q+A session that I would be doing if I weren’t teaching:

I

I strongly related to this book because, like Adina, I too am an asexual alien.

It’s fairly common among autistics to feel alien because so much of what goes on in conversation and in “polite society” doesn’t make much sense to us. Adina makes keen o

“This is the hardest part—
That boy is not made of fists.
That boy
learned how to braid my hair.
These things do not un-truth themselves
when the first door slams.
I did not stop loving him
