What an intriguing question!

Many years ago a group of us were travelling to the South of France. It was early afternoon when we stopped at a picnic spot on the Autoroute du Sud. Relieved to get out of the car, and stretch our legs, we lingered in the dappled shade. A couple of French baguettes, some brie, tomatoes, sparkling water and plump peaches made up a make-shift lunch. Tucking in, we chattered excitedly about the route ahead until someone stopped short and looked up.
"What?"
"There's no traffic!"
An eerie silence had fallen on the highway, which thirty minutes earlier, had been bustling with holiday-makers heading for the beaches of the Côte D'Azur.

You could weave a good plot around that one incident.

In fact, it turned out, that French Farmers had been protesting. They had lit straw bales across all six lanes at two intersections of the highway, preventing cars from travelling. We had been the only ones caught in the middle.

Emergence!

It may not have escaped your notice that you haven’t heard from me in a very long time.  I’ve been cocooned in a period of transformation, and am about to rise, phoenix-like, from the ashes.

For the past couple of years I’ve had a lot on my plate.  My body decided it was time to go through the great rite of passage we call the menopause.  I now understand why it was once called “the change.”  At th
