Richard Lear has always had a love of the Old West. He had also always wanted to write a book but inspiration for what to write was lacking. It finally hit, and it’s no wonder that his first novel is a Western. Taking three years to complete, he found the experience of writing THREE RODE THE TRAIL so joyful and rewarding that he is now working on the sequel, GARRISON, which will be published later this year..
Richard is married and lives with his wife and family in Washington state.

My folks never discussed this and in fact told lies about how they met. I only found out about this through a self-published memoir written by my favorite aunt. I think the exploration of what the real story was with my dad would make a great novel. (less)

In my fictional world I would feel the isolation yet wonder at riding alone through the miles and miles of the Northern Plains. In other fantasies I'm riding and camping in the high country of the Rockies or the Tetons. (less)

In the final rewrites of GARRISON, the sequel to THREE RODE THE TRAIL. The writing is better than with the first book and with a more streamlined but just as gripping plot. It even has the first lovemaking/sex scenes I've ever written. Gotta admit they're very good. They should sell a few books for me!

Like the TRTT, this novel has comedy sprinkled in with the drama and action. A bit more gun play Read more of this blog post »

Great fact-filled but breezy read on the history of Skee-Ball. I had no idea there was this entire, complex story behind this arcade game. This book is meant to be a companion piece to the documentary of the same name. It did its job; I plan to watch ...more
