Rich Elvers writes stuff. All sorts of stuff: web content, advertising brochures, his own author bio, unproduced movie scripts. And books. Which is why he's on Amazon. And Goodreads.

Being Canadian, he is obsessed with hockey. One of his life goals is to see a hockey game in all 32 NHL stadiums. He has only 30 stadiums to go.

He lives in Calgary, Canada, with his partner (she calls him her 'common law' cuz it's easier) Jen of NaturallyNu.com fame, and two pugs named Indy and Chewie. (Yes, he knows it should be spelled Chewy.)

I usually don't get writer's block. I have a few ways of dealing with it:

1) Just WRITE. Anything. Nonsense, gibberish, editing or rewrite the previous day's work or just write the character doing something random. It usually comes to me.

2) Music. For every project I choose 2 or 3 movie soundtracks that match the tone of my project and I play them while I write and while I brainstorm and just try to picture the character or world. Music inspires a lot of full scenes or ideas.

3) Go for a walk and think about the story.

4) Figure out if the block is because something is wrong with the story or scene I'm working on. Writer's block for a lot of writers is a symptom of a subconscious or conscious awareness of trying to force something illogical or counter to a character's nature.(less)

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Splendid review

The Splendid and the Vile is an eye opening and exhilarating historical narrative.

Not really knowing a lot about Churchhill, I was quickly charmed by his colourful character, childlike enthusiasm, stubborn resolve and by the scent of his ever-present cigars Read more of this blog post »

Rich’s Recent Updates

Rich Elvers liked a quote
Of Ruin and Renewal by Liz Newman
“Atlantis

People would whisper about us
And our fall from grace
As our world fell to ruin
And our worst fears were realized,
We’d be submerged and forgotten
The stuff of speculation.
Legend at best,
We were a lost city,
Singing our siren ballads
Of heartbreak and woe
From the depths below,
We were here!
We were here.
We were here…”
