K. G. Duncan lives with his wife, a dog and two feral cats in Los Angeles beneath the foothills of the San Gabriel mountains. He grew up in a musical theater family (there is a show tune for every situation in life) and was about 6 years old before he realized that life was not always featuring choreographed production numbers!) He has a B.A. degree in Linguistics and Philosophy (what do you do with that?) and an M.Ed in Education, both from UCLA. In his youth, he taught English in and traveled all over China. (Oh yes... there are a few books in there... stay tuned!) He is recently retired from UCLA Extension’s American Language Center, where he taught English and developed curriculum for international students for over 28 years. K.G. does ...more

2nd Edition of Book 1 coming soon!

Well, I am very close to releasing a 2nd edition of Awakened--I'm Only Dreaming of Dragons, Book 1. This edition will be in B&W (I learned the hard way about prohibitive costs with color printing on my first go!), and it will feature several more illustrations by Kat Bornhoft! The paperback will be priced more competitively, too--Yay!

Hi Kyle, nice to hear that all is well. I am very envious of your trip to Egypt and Jordan. They are two countries I absolutely love. I visited Egypt twice and Jordan once. Memories of both will persist as long as I have functioning brain cells.

I will watch out for the second "Awakened" book with interest...

Happy New Year when it arrives... :-)

Delighted to hear from you Robin! Merry Christmas to you and yours, as well! May the nogg spirits keep you warm and convivial!

Alas, I haven't checked into Goodreads for a while... but the good news there is that's because I have been travelling (Egypt and Jordan) and also while at home, I have been in writing and publishing mode these past several weeks! Just published a 2nd edition of Awakened. Book 2, Baku the Devourer of Dreams will be coming soon!

There is a copy of "The Splendid and the Vile" waiting to be read... I find that when I am in writing mode, I do less reading. I think I'll be switching gears soon!

Peace! Kyle

Robin Tompkins Hi Kyle.

Just thought I would reach out and say hello, it being the time of year when you do that sort of thing. So, I hope all is well with you and yours. A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you.

Cheers

Hi Kyle, did you see my reply and were mortally offended by it? Or did you just not see it yet? :-)

Hi Kyle (KG). Nice to hear from you. I find it difficult to read other peoples fiction when I'm writing my own also. Other forms of storytelling like TV or movies don't bother me, but the written word does... Bus man's holiday maybe? (if you have that phrase in the US).

As before, there is no rush, take your time. As for any criticism you might have, go ahead. I can't promise to act on it, the book is already in print and has sold a number of copies (though not as many as we hoped) and it is not just my book of course. :-)

I am currently trying to find ways to retire if I can. There are no jobs in my old line of work and I really don't feel like retraining at this time in my life. It's kind of stressful and I think that is why I'm not getting up a head of steam on Bell Hill part three. Too distracted.

I have a sneaky suspicion we are about to tread some of the same territory, ancient elementals and dragons that aren't exactly dragons. Or, as my dragon Oroc says in Bell Hill Book one, "You know of course, that there are no such things as dragons?"

Good luck with keeping all the plates spinning. :-) If you reply and don't get an answer immediately, it's because I can't see your comments on the mobile GR app for some reason, I can only view them on the laptop. Anyway, you need to get back to it, I think I can see one of those plates slowing down...

Hi Ro..."

Hola Robin! Thanks for checking in... your posts always bring a smile if not chortling laughs and the occasional snort! I am almost done with your book... been feeling guilty about the slow read, but I am just slammed with the Spring season of high school musical theatre, and my "other Life" has taken over. Needless to say, I've not been active on GR, nor have I been reading anything!

My beta read for book 2 of the Dragons series is nearly complete. One more significant re-write still lies ahead. I may not be able to get to it until after May, however. In the meantime, I shall endeavor to finish your book and also leave a very decent review in the usual places.

Just between authors, I have one critical formatting issue I'd like to bring to your attention... but perhaps it is not my place to impose... just let me know if you'd like to hear my 2 cents.

Always a pleasure, my good man! Stay in touch, please!

Kyle (KG)

Hi KG... for whatever reason I only just spotted your reply. I use the mobile version of GR a lot and it doesn't always pick everything up. Anyway, feel no guilt, be a surfer dude, the writing comes first and if you're up and running, then keep going. I wish I was. I seemed to have mislaid my mojo somewhere, careless I know. Writing part three of the Bell Hill Trilogy is like drawing teeth and I don't mean with a pencil. I will check the crack between the cushions and the pockets of my other jacket later to see if that's where I left my mojo... really do need to find it. LOL :-)

Hi Robin! Well, it is that 2nd book that has kept me from getting more deeply into your book! As you know, when in writing mode, you must take advantage and ride the wave... I've not been able to read much as a result... I can't seem to do both! But Book 2 will be here soon as I'm going into beta reader phase next week... Looking for a release in February or Early March. Now... there's a certain book about cats in Egypt that is sitting on my night stand... I will get to it... I will get to it... :) (Through two chapters and enjoying it so far!)
