I'll say that when I originally started out, I intended to keep each chapter/episode loosely related to one another as I was able to tell a different story each time. With the second book in the series we find Val caught up in something much more than just his quest for vengeance, and in return, the chapters are bit more linear yet still unique in their own regard.

Book two expands more upon the events going on in the broader world, with some really weird twists and more than its share of intense battles. The "Sword & Sorcery" aspect is much more noticeable in this entry in my honest opinion. Also, you see Valengetrix grow and mature in many ways, and his character develop along his journeys which makes for some interesting dynamics that will impact future novels.

The third entry in the series is currently a work in progress but it promises to answer many of the questions from the previous two books, so stay tuned! Without giving out any spoilers, suffice to say it's going to be a wild and savage experience!(less)

Valengetrix by J R Cason
"The setting explodes off the page. You feel the cold, you hear the crunch of snow, you see the massive figure of Kaleva looming like a mountain. The banter between him and Val adds charm without breaking tension. This reads like the opening to a seri" Read more of this review »

Valengetrix by JR Cason
"Definitely a strong 4+/4.5 rating. Good S&S/heroic adventure story, a complete narrative arc, this short novel, unlike books 1 and 2 that were collections of short stories (also well done)."

"Cason has done something very difficult. He has built a hybrid and pulled it off. The first couple of books in the series (which I loved) were sword and sorcery books. The last two, including this one, have infused a lot of world building and history" Read more of this review »

An excellent retelling of the iconic 1982 movie. Reads like a director's cut with extended scenes and some slight alterations that are more in line with REH's original character vision without straying too far from what made the movie such a classic ...more
