I grew up what can be described as "a big country town", surrounded by pets; dogs, cats, birds, fish, rabbits, chooks, guinea pigs and even a horse and some goats at one point. Oh, and a duck named Spike that we renamed to Spikette when she started laying eggs.

An Australian culture peppers my work, as does my colourful imagination and insatiable curiosity. There is not a literary genre or style that will be left unexplored in my stories, which are slowly making their way to publication. Hit me up with requests for my experiments anytime!

I'm currently experimenting with various styles. Perhaps the easiest introduction is You & I. I had a lot of fun writing it.
Accidental Prostitute, however, will likely always be my favourite. Of all the manuscripts I've written (many are currently undergoing editing) this was the most challenging, and by far the most experimental.
Very possibly, you wouldn't think it was the same author, as they are vastly different.(less)

I'm looking forward to publishing it at the end of October (2021). Anyone who adds that edition as "To Be Read" is more than welcome to contact me to participate in the ARC (jac.jb.buchanan@gmail.com or www.twitter.com.au/jacbuchanan_jb).
The voice-only approach (i.e. no sound effects) suits the pared-back, raw style of writing. It was a fantastic experience recording it.(less)

Secrets Beneath the Ghost Gums

Well, it's about time! I'm finally publishing again. And yes, this is another experiment on style - so don't expect it to be similar to others. Though admittedly, none of my readers ever do.

This time I've taken inspiration from the likes of Poe and Dickens, though a beta-reader said it was equally reminiscent of Christie. No complaints from me.

Why Poe? I find his Read more of this blog post »

"How to approach reviewing this one? You'll have noticed I give it one star, so I didn't like it, but there are two caveats to that:

1. I am obviously not the imagined audience for this series..

2. I don't want to just descend into laughing at things te" Read more of this review »

Jac Buchanan "Accidental Prostitute" was released yesterday. Very exciting for me. It was heartbreaking, challenging and full of self-doubt - all the normal feelings encountered by authors.

Why am I telling you this? Because I don't want you feeling like the odd-one-out when you have self-doubts. Guess what - you're human. And there is nothing more loveable than that.

I'm working hard on getting an audiobook out. Please bear with me, but in the meantime of course hit me up with questions and more literary challenges.
