Who was the man in the photo?

Here's another small unedited snippet from my FEB/MAR 2014 release ENTITY MINE.

Devon, the heroine, has just found Ethan's photo and been told that he's dead.

His eyes were light, green or blue, maybe hazel--she squelched the urge to ask. No need to make her oldest friend question her sanity--and thick lashes, half-lowered, made him look reserved. His hair was dark and short, military in its ruthless precision. His face had a lean, sculpted quality, as if he were the product of some artist’s imagination. His straight nose slashed toward his mouth and his cheekbones sheered diagonally across his face, carving his jaw into almost perfect triangles on either side. His lips were held tight, the only softness in his face the slight fullness of his bottom lip above the mere whisper of a cleft chin.
He reclined beside a huge, glass jar of coins on the concrete front stoop of the small ranch-style house -- one long leg bent, the other straight, his large right hand tucked across his lean ribs, the left propped on the step beside him -- making a black t-shirt and jeans look as sexy as nothing at all. Sexier.
Something gripped her heart as she gazed at the photo. She swallowed against the feeling.
Had she ever seen anyone who looked more alone?

Cover reveal coming soon!

Shiny things 12/18

Things distracting me today, December 18th 2014

1.A serious message from the Authors of Soul Mate Publishing http://youtu.be/xDsabUwY_vE #kindle #books I worked hard on this homemade video. I hope you'll take a gander! This video sucked away about ten hours of writing time What non-writing/work projects are sucking up your time?

2.Still Christmas shopping. I started early, but when I looked to see what I had it wasn't as much as I thought. Going into panic shopping mode. This is difficult as I am the queen of indecision! How's your shopping going? This is the first year I've shopped this far from Christmas. It was supposed to relax me, and make Christmas easy, but so far no dice.

3.I've got my latest hero and heroine inches from the clinch and every time I sit (or walk) down to seal the deal, I suddenly find something more important to do, like laundry.

Hope you're enjoying the season!

Karin

Fear of what?

Since it’s NaNoWriMo, I’m going to share a writing struggle.

Every one of the Chimera Chronicles was inspired by something.
1. In Like a Lion has heavy the Pretender overtones.
2. Entity Mine was inspired by an episode of Discovery channel’s old A Haunting.
3. The Lion’s Share is inspired by an episode of Supernatural called Nightshifter.
4. Lion’s Prey in inspired by a Supernatural episode called Jus en Bello.
5. The Dragon’s Flame is a treasure hunt book.
I’m working on book 6 now, draft title Her Sexy Beast, and as you might guess, it’s centered on a Beauty Beast theme.
Oddly, I actually find it harder to write the parts that most closely mirror the original story. This morning I separated Sofia from Roan as called for in BATB, now I have to maneuver through the rest within the confines of the Chimera Chronicles mythology. I’m procrastinating. “I have to write a FB post!” Better check in on Goodreads, Instagram, Twitter, post to my blog, etc. it’s important to me that I do this well, and I fear my best will not be good enough.

It’s not the first time I’ve mentioned my persistent self-doubt, but I think it’s important to recognize, that these issues don’t just turn to ash like traditional vampires in sunlight after being faced. It can help to acknowledge the problem, but it doesn’t cure it.

Fear is often a motivator (though, I believe most steps taken as a result of fear are usually in the wrong direction). But for me it’s always been more of a roadblock.

Are you working on NaNoWriMo? Or just waiting eagerly for the fruit of us madly typing writers?

Is fear holding you back from something?

I’d love to hear! (Selfishly, it make me feel less alone)😊
