Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
"I first read Rebecca in high school, a worn paperback passed around among my girlfriends, each fresh reader daily peppered with the question, “Are you to the part yet when …?” At 16 I was reading for plot and romance. Returning to the novel now for t" Read more of this review »

Dogs, Boys, and Other Things I’ve Cried About by Isabel Klee

This book ended up being odd.

I follow Klee on social media and I'm quite interested in what she does. I was willing to go with "boys" in the beginning of the book, but I kept waiting for less “boys” and more “dogs.” It didn’t happen.

I felt the book

I found this book uncomfortable to read in places because it felt like Evans had been eavesdropping on my life. So much of it seemed familiar and true. There are obviously some universal truths about women of a certain age at a certain time in their ...more

I enjoyed this book very much--and had to research a couple of things she wrote about. The Grand Illumination Night for one. I'd like to see that one August on Martha's Vineyard!

A lovely but sad book. I felt for all these characters (though not Grace's mother. But she was a woman of her times, or maybe of all times.)

I do wonder, though, what we, as readers, would have thought if the pregnancy was less abhorrent. If the femal

I would have given this 4 stars until the end.

I was not expecting this to end on a "cliffhanger" that will have to be solved in a next book. I'm tired of series. Write me a story that has some sort of resolution that I can ruminate on.

Reading the two-star reviews on Project Hail Mary, I agree with many of them: white man learns new language in a day and saves universe in a jokey manner, but I have to say those criticisms didn't bother me. Yes, there was quite a bit of disbelief yo ...more
