Phil does this stuff at times when he's not immersed in the results and strategies of media companies. Sarah does this when she's not running two boys backwards and forwards and helping with homework.
They run Clive Barker's archive and have been writing about his work online for the last fifteen years at the Revelations website. They finally got around to publishing volume 1 of their archive-based series of books in early 2009 after ten years of research and interviews.
Volumes 2 and 3 followed, along with Beneath the Surface of Clive Barker's Abarat, The Painter, Creature and the Father of Lies (Clive's c

Recent Additions to the Archive

Time for a catch-up on some of the latest things to find their way onto the archive shelves!

Spanning items dating from 1986 to 2023, the earliest here is an August ’86 sketch that Clive drew inside a copy of the US first edition of The Inhuman Condition.  Other titles here by Clive include new US editions of Weaveworld and The Damnation Game, as well as the Hulu tie-in cover for Book of Blood vo

Friedrich Nietzsche
“How lovely it is that there are words and sounds. Are not words and sounds rainbows and illusive bridges between things which are eternally apart?”
Friedrich Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra

Clive Barker
“I'm a poet,' the young man said, 'And it's my job to remember the sadness of things.”
Clive Barker, Beneath The Surface of Clive Barker's Abarat

Clive Barker
“I’ve spent my creative life so far first in the theatre, then on the page, then on the screen, examining what is turning out as I grow older to look like one enormous landscape.

What I originally thought were different worlds turn out to be one interconnected place. And like a bedspread viewed by a sick child from his pillow, I am very aware that there are colours in various corners which I know very well, but I haven’t yet found the ways to get from the blue to the green and from the green to the red.

I’ve just begun, and I suppose that’s become my preoccupation – the idea that at one point I will see it clearly.”
Clive Barker, Liverpool Lives

Clive Barker
“Christopher Carrion is me. Christopher Carrion is a man who has had love in his life and that love has not always been good with him. Christopher Carrion is a man who has nightmares but eats them. Christopher Carrion is a man who is very lonely a lot of the time. Christopher Carrion is a man who people look at very strangely sometimes and they are very quiet around him... Christopher Carrion is intimidating, Christopher Carrion is frightening, but, as you very well know, behind closed doors, Christopher Carrion is sad and alone and Christopher Carrion wants very much to be redeemed, he just doesn't know how to be redeemed.”
Clive Barker, Beneath The Surface of Clive Barker's Abarat

China Miéville
“Perhaps the window is not a sun but an asterisk, interrupting the grammar of the sky, with me sitting below it like a footnote.”
China Miéville, Looking for Jake and Other Stories
