Final final final
The Strange Gift of Gwendolyn Golden is in the final, final editing stages. I've spent all week, dreaming in Gwendolyn. It's been very intense, but the book is now back with my fabulous editor at Dundurn, and is being given one last final polish with a soft, fine cloth. Can't wait to see it, ARCS coming in June.
My Book Addiction picks The Strange Gift of Gwendolyn Golden
So very honoured that the folks at My Book Addiction blog have chosen my forthcoming book, The Strange Gift of Gwendolyn Golden, as their 'Waiting on Wednesday' pick for this week! Thank you!
The list "spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating."
In their "Why I'm waiting" section, they had this to say: "Simply put: This just sounds like a fun read! Every now and then I like to read things that aren’t overly complicated or mind-boggling, and this sounds like it fits the bill perfectly. The cover caught my eye and once I read the synopsis it went directly onto my TBR list."

A one-of-a-kind review for The Strange Gift of Gwendolyn Golden
Thank you to Shannon, for this lovely, insightful and extremely well-written review of my upcoming book, The Strange Gift of Gwendolyn Golden. Parts of the review resonated with me in a startling way, almost like having a twin whisper in my ear.
The book is a middle grade magic realism novel about a young teen girl who, for no apparent reason, wakes up one morning floating around the ceiling of her room like one of her little brother's Batman balloons.
Here is the link to the review: http://www.giraffedays.com/?p=18630
Here is the goodreads page for the book, so you can see what others had to say: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
Thank you Shannon, I'm really honoured!

A Banner Day for Gwendolyn Golden
Wow, my forthcoming middle grade novel, The Strange Gift of Gwendolyn Golden, has had an extraordinary day.
First, it received an amazing review from ebooknews.ca. They called it "A gold standard teen-cusp read" and "a must-add to home and public libraries." Wow. So honoured! Here's the link: http://ebooknews.ca/home/
Then, as if that wasn't enough, Middle Shelf magazine (which is free btw, and if you're into middle grade books, you can subscribe at the link below) published their new Jan/Feb. issue, and featured an excerpt from the book on their "6 cool books for cool kids" ... another wow!
http://issuu.com/shelfunbound/docs/mi...
PLUS, Helen Kubiw at Canlit for little Canadians.ca added the book to it's key books to look for in 2014.

Three wows. Thanks ebooknews.ca, Middle Shelf magazine and Canlit for little Canadians, I'm really delighted! A banner day for sure.

Introducing Myles and the Monster Outside
Have you ever been on a never-ending car drive, and as the minutes turn to hours turn to days ... you start to see things outside the window. Things that no one else can see, of course.
Scarecrows waving goodbye?
Birds spelling the word "beware" as they fly past in formation?
Monsters striding along the highway?
If you love YA horror stories, I think you'll enjoy my new book in the Weird Stories Gone Wrong Series, following Jake and the Giant Hand . Introducing Myles and the Monster Outside, a paranormal road trip horror story for kids 9-12. Accompanied by 6 creepy and adorable illustrations by Shawna Daigle, I hope you check it out!
Please request an ARC for review from my publisher, Dundurn Press.
Here's more information, and a first peek at the fantastic cover! http://phdowding.blogspot.ca/2015/01/...

Dowding offers a charming sequel ...

"Dowding offers a charming sequel ... a page-turner that is funny, magical and entertaining."--Kirkus Reviews, July/2016

Well, that's a wonderful first review for my next book, Everton Miles is Stranger than Me, the sequel to The Strange Gift of Gwendolyn Golden, which was shortlisted for the OLA Red Maple award, in 2015.
Thank you, KirkusReviews! It's always a bit nerve-wracking waiting for your first review of a new book. The word "tenterhooks" comes to mind! (A kind of sharp nail, used to attach cloth to tenters, according to Merriam Webster.)
Together, the books are called The Night Flyer's Handbook Series.

If you'd like to read the entire review, here's the link: https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-re...
And here's a link to my longer blog post about the series: http://phdowding.blogspot.ca/2016/08/...
Everton Miles is Stranger than Me is forthcoming from Dundurn Press, October 2016.

BLOG TOUR WEEK!

This week is BLOG TOUR week for my forthcoming title, Everton Miles is Stranger than Me, which lands in stores on Oct. 15 (book launch, Oct. 22, Yonge/Eglinton Indigo).
All week, I'll be talking about the book on different blogs, answering fantastic questions from great bloggers, and trying to get the word out.
One of my favourite questions was from blogger Helen Kubiw: what's the nature of forgiveness and mercy in the story?
Had to think about that one!
Another great question from blogger Michelle at FabbityFab: how do you create a mythical fallen angel like Abilith the Rogue?
That one took a while to answer, too (and included a list of books I re-read and shows I watched, from Milton's Paradise Lost to Star Trek's Enterprise franchise, for the early Vulcans.)
Here's the complete blog tour schedule, hope you'll join us: http://phdowding.blogspot.ca/2016/10/...
