It's my manuscript telling me that I"m going the wrong way and that I'm bored with it. And if I"m bored, my readers will be bored. So I go back to a spot where I feel that glimmer of inspiration still, and I amputate what comes after it, and start from that point afresh. That usually works for me. It's only a matter of not being so married to my own writing that I can't just delete big chunks of it.(less)
