Yes, I absolutely love Toni Morrison. I’ve read all of her novels and I’m about to start her latest, God Help the Child. As for Eric Hoffer, I entered the Eric Hoffer Award because it is a well-respected indie contest. While I looked up information on him, I did not read any of his books. Your question, and your comment that he was one of your heroes, motivates me to read him. Which book would you suggest I read first? (less)

"This one is one of my two favorite novels I've read thus far this year (the other is Cassandra Neyenesch's A LITTLE BIT BAD). I've enjoyed other Strout novels, especially Olive, but this one...big wow. So good. A tearjerker. Unexpected twists. I can " Read more of this review »

"Loving Elizabeth Strout as I do, I preordered her latest novel, anticipating her hallmark enjoyableness. But I was not prepared for how much this book rocked me at the soul level. "

“I liked stories. I liked the way they had the power to make sense of life.”
Candi Sary, Black Crow White Lie

“I had already found that it was not good to be alone, and so made companionship with what there was around me, sometimes with the universe and sometimes with my own insignificant self; but my books were always my friends, let fail all else.”
Joshua Slocum, Sailing Alone around the World

“Don't say it was delightful; make us say delightful when we've read the description. You see, all those words (horrifying, wonderful, hideous, exquisite) are only like saying to your readers Please will you do the job for me.”
C.S. Lewis

“When I do good, I feel good. When I do bad, I feel bad. That's my religion.”
Abraham Lincoln

“War is what happens when language fails.”
Margaret Atwood

“Those who believe in telekinetics, raise my hand.”
Kurt Vonnegut
