Worth getting up for...

So, I had to do a few hours in work this morning and waking up all cosy in my bed and hearing the wind and rain outside, not to mention how dark it was, was not inspiring me to get up. However I did have the added incentive of going off to see a Pantomime with the family later on (one of my fave things about Christmas).

I dragged my tired self out of bed, still feeling the festive spirit and not really feeling the 'lets return back to normal routine' spirit.

The train was eerily quite as only a few people were on board making their own journey to work, the wind was howling around the carriage as it trundled closer to the station.

Wrapped up against the cold I walked through the station, in my own little world, which was miles away from where I actually was.

Then, I made my usual call into the station shop and chatted to the lady behind the counter as I purchased my usual diet coke. We chat most mornings and we exchanged Christmas wishes and asked each other if we'd 'had a good one'. She then told me that she'd got a kindle for Christmas and would be downloading my books and she was looking forward to reading them. Instantly feeling happy and excited we chatted for a few more minutes about my books then I left the shop, heading off to work, my step having a little bit more of a spring in it, a small smile on my face. Writing is what makes me truly happy. So, it had been worth getting up for after all!

Best Seller

So, I got a nice surprise in the post today, my royalty statement. But what was even nicer was seeing which of my books is the most popular. 'Best Seller' if you will (although I use that term loosely, I'm hardly Jackie Collins!!)

It's seems my chick lit, comedy romantic romp - LOVE OVERBOARD is my number one seller.

This makes me especially happy as this is the book closest to my heart. Having spent ten years working for Thomas Cook and being lucky enough to embark on a free two week Caribbean cruise, I KNEW there was a story there.

What I love most about this book is people I know trying to work out who the characters are. (I even had one guy say to me that he was trying to work out which of the main characters was me - I pointed out that one was brunette and one was blonde and as I'm a brunette...simples!!) I also like people trying to work out which bits of the story are true. Well, most of the anecdotes from the travel agency are real and there IS a real life Larry, the manager of the travel agency (you couldn't make that guy up - but seriously, best boss I've ever had)

As for everything else, I'll leave that to the reader to decide. Don't want to spoil the magic.

So if you fancy getting onboard my cruise ship, then check out the link below.

Forever...More!

I don't read as many Magazine's as I used to growing up, books will always be my first love but doesn't mean magazine's don't have an important role...

I felt quite sad today when I discovered MORE magazine will no longer be published. I recall many a time when I was supposed to be doing homework engrossed in the latest edition.

(With the risk of sounding old) It wasn't like it is now when I was a teenager. There wasn't an app for answering the sexual questions you had when you didn't want to ask a grown up. The internet was barely a twinkle in someone's eye....it was always slow to log onto and you couldn't use the phone if someone was using the internet, so in the mid 90's, it seemed more hassle than it was worth. So mags like SUGAR and MORE were staple reading for the 90's teenager.

My friends and I would turn straight away to the position of the fortnight and wonder what on earth a 'Reverse Cowgirl' was and more importantly, how bendy you'd have to be to get into that position. Next we'd do the quizzes to find out who was our 'ideal man' what your 'favourite position' was and 'how flirty are you?'. Then we'd read the 'erotic stories', which probably seem quite tame now in these days of BDSM, but at the time they were quite risque.

MORE was a ground breaking magazine, it was the first to really take sex by the scruff of it's neck and put it 'out there'. Along with Judy Blume's FOREVER, which was equally as important to breaking down sexual barriers for teenagers. (I will NEVER forget being introduced to Ralph for the first time!)

I will be purchasing the last copy of More this week, for the sake of nostalgia and I know what page I'll be turning to first....thanks for the memories MORE.

I Heart Books...

I can't remember a time when I didn't read. I was one of those kids who always had their head in a book, whether it was the latest amazingly imaginative Roald Dahl book or one of Enid Blyton's fab series of Famous Five, Malory Towers or the Naughtiest Girl in the School, I was reading. I also loved The Bunty annuals that I got every Christmas and would spend Christmas afternoon curled up on the sofa and would devour it in one go.

By aged ten my books where on my shelves in alphabetical order, I would lovingly spend hours putting my books in the right order. (with little paper stickers underneath with the name of the author written on) - I still do this to this day, but without the library type labelling!!

So, it was lovely tonight when I took my youngest daughter up to bed and asked her what we were reading tonight. She picked 'Five go on an Adventure' and told me she loves these books. As I listened to her read, I was instantly transported back to my child hood as she read to me about the five going off to Kirrin island. She also informed me that George is actually called Georgina, but she'd prefer to be a boy. These are stories before mobiles, computer games, skyping your friends, facebook...we've come along way with technology but it doesn't mean we should forget when we used to play out all day with our friends, had a healthy dirty tan and our summer holidays were full of adventure, ok we might not have caught a dastardly ring of smugglers at smugglers cove, but we made our own fun.

This is why I love that my little girl is enjoying these books too - it lets her imagination run wild and dream up adventures to have with her own friends.

That's all for now folks, off to have lashings of ginger beer!!

Love, Bev xx

Well Hello There...

Hello lovely readers of books,

As this is my first blog on here, I thought it was only right and proper that I introduced myself...I'm Bev, I'm 30ish and I love to write. I love to write when I can fit it in with the day job, around my hubby, my girls and the housework (shoving the ironing into the cupboard under the stairs counts as housework, right?)

As well as loving to write, I also love to read, which is why this site is a perfect place for me to be. I love purple, rock music, trashy TV and pink wine :O)...(note to self...look into purple wine, see if it's been invented yet, if not have a go!)

I have different styles of writing. Love Overboard is unashamedly chicklit. It's camp, it's fun. If you smile when you're reading that book, then job done.

I also like to write stuff where I can be a bit more glam and give my characters crazy names like Chase and Jett and Magenta Valentina!! In these books, such as Betrayal, the character's are always beautiful, but generally flawed and there is normally a murder in there somewhere!

My third book - Twisted Sister - will be available in a matter of weeks, this is the follow on to Betrayal. I am currently working on a full on bonkbuster which I am having loads of fun writing.

Feel free to check out my updates on facebook BevDulson (books) where you'll find all sorts of random stuff. I love interacting with people who read my books and as an indie author I am really looking to build my profile.

Happy Reading...until next time.

Bev xx
