Pat Conroy called my love and basketball themed novel The Coaches Wife, "One of the best novels about basketball and coaching I've ever read with a love story so complicated book clubs will be talking about it for years."

It was an honor for me to get to talk about the novel with Pat, and the time I spent coaching basketball in Indiana while also making a mess out the relationships in my life. While the book is a fictional novel, it's certainly based on the experiences I lived while in my twenties.

These days, I'm a writer and filmmaker who splits time between Asheville, North Carolina where I live with my family and NYC where I teach First Year Writing at St. John's University.

You are a generous reader. Nice to think there are readers out there who don't like a book but then check out another title. Cool.

Kate Thanks for the friend request! I've only read two of River's books. I didn't like The Miracle of Mercy Land at all. Praying for Strangers is the only other one I read.

William Torgerson I should check out Where I was From. Not taken a look at that one. Thanks!

Jan C Thanks for the friend-vite, Bill.

I am really enjoying Joan Didion's Where I Was From right now and how her family came to California. Very interesting and so enjoyable to read her writing.

Karen Mckaig You had me at "Duran Duran". There was a time when I was planning on marrying John Taylor (DD base guitar) and name our first child Taylor Nigel Taylor, which is John Nigel Taylor's name with the John replaced....by Taylor. Thankful there is no child with this pitifully redundant name, at least not from any of my doing. Please remember this was a LONG time ago and I was YOUNG. Can't wait for your book to come out in January! kmck
