Cari Hunter lives in the northwest of England with her wife, their cats, and a field full of sheep. She works full-time as a paramedic and dreams up stories in her spare time.

Cari enjoys long, wind-swept, muddy walks in her beloved Peak District. In the summer she can usually be found sitting in the garden with her feet up, scribbling in her writing pad. Although she doesn’t like to boast, she will admit that she makes a very fine Bakewell Tart.

She has written eleven novels, including the Dark Peak series, and has won multiple Goldie and Rainbow awards. In 2024, she won the Best LGBTQ Mystery Lambda for A Calculated Risk, the first book in the DI Jo Shaw series.

The Stolen Girl, the second book in the DI Jo Shaw series, will be released in J

Ooh, my first - not asked by Goodreads - question! (thank you :-) )

The book title does relate to what takes place during the course of the story, but I wouldn't say that the events were due to random chance, more that there wasn't any legitimate kind of reason for them happening, and that once set in motion, the whole thing snowballed into something far more horrific than such a tiny trigger ever deserved. Hence 'No Good Reason' - once the reader realises what motivated the crime, the title should hopefully make sense.(less)

I would never say never to a fourth instalment, but it's very unlikely at this point. I know the series has a lot of fans and I absolutely loved writing the books, but I also loved where A Quiet Death left things and, to be honest, I'd be scared of mucking things up by writing a fourth book. I don't know whether you've seen it already, but there's a short festive story on my blog (https://carihunter.wordpress.com/2018...) which gives a little insight into where Sanne and Meg are a year or so later. Desolation Point Deleted Scenes

I dipped into Desolation Point a few weeks ago while I was on my hols. It’s not my favourite of mine by a long shot, but I do still have a lil’ crush on Sarah so it’s fun to occasionally flick through it. Anyway, not a lot of folks know this, but the published book is missing about 8000 words from its ending. They were cut during editing and they’re a mixture of “yes, these are very self-indulgent

After many years, I think I've finally given up on Karin Slaughter. I DNF-ed the last couple of hers that I tried to read, and I barely made it to the end of this one. As a kick-off point for a new series, it's a long-winded police procedural, full o ...more

“He might not have been the brightest spark on the TAU, but he knew how to kick a door down,”
Cari Hunter, Cold to the Touch

“I was fully intending to cook you something complicated and delicious,” Meg said. “But then I started to watch this nature documentary, and a fluffy baby seal was being chased by a polar bear, so I muted it and shut my eyes, and when I woke up it was two hours later. How does soup and toasties grab you?”
Cari Hunter, A Quiet Death
tags: humor

“You can’t possibly be thinking of sending him home! He can barely walk.” Meg’s smile began to slip. Ambulance crews were queuing almost out the door, and all this lad needed was a stat dose of Man-the-Fuck-Up.”
Cari Hunter, A Quiet Death
