“In his book Words That Work, political consultant and author Frank Luntz sums up the concept nicely when he says, “It’s not what you say, it’s what people hear.”
Lisa B. Marshall, Smart Talk: The Public Speaker's Guide to Success in Every Situation

“You teach best what you most need to learn. —RICHARD BACH, ILLUSIONS: THE ADVENTURES OF A RELUCTANT MESSIAH”
Lisa B. Marshall, Smart Talk: The Public Speaker's Guide to Success in Every Situation

“Psychologist John Gottman first studied positive-to-negative ratios in marriages. Using a 5:1 ratio, which Gottman called “The Magic Ratio,” he and his colleagues predicted whether 700 newlywed couples would stay together or divorce by scoring their positive and negative interactions in one fifteen-minute conversation. Ten years later, the follow-up revealed that they had predicted divorce with 87 percent accuracy3,4.”
Lisa B. Marshall, Smart Talk: The Public Speaker's Guide to Success in Every Situation

“Trust in the context of a conversation is believing that the other person will acknowledge me, not take advantage of me, not embarrass or humiliate me, tell me the truth, and, in the broader context, not cheat me, work on my behalf, and support the goals we have agreed to.”
Edgar H. Schein, Humble Inquiry: The Gentle Art of Asking Instead of Telling
