Schrijven is mijn lust en mijn leven. Het begon op de basisschool toen ik ontdekte hoe leuk het schrijven van opstellen was en zelf ook verhalen begon te schrijven. Een daarvan ging over een mosasaurus, de tweede over het monster van Loch Ness. Op mijn achtste had ik al een eerste non-fictie boekje zelf gemaakt, compleet met tekeningen. Waarover? Dinosaurussen. Een thema wordt langzaam duidelijk.
Het zal niemand verbazen dat de reeks avonturenverhalen die ik als tiener op een typemachine uitwerkte, begon met 'Joost en Cliff op het eiland der pterodactylen.' In navolging van mijn favoriete auteurs Arthur C. Clarke en Isaac Asimov begon ik ook met het schrijven van korte SF-verhalen en een bundel daarvan, getiteld 'De sprinkhanen', mocht ik v Schrijven is mijn lust en mijn leven. Na een overspannenheid tijdens mijn studie besloot ik het schrijven serieus op te pakken. Het resulteerde in mijn debuutroman 'Neptunus' die in 2001 verscheen bij uitgeverij Voorhoeve. In 2002 had ik de eer het actieboek voor de maand van het spannende boek te schrijven voor de christelijke uitgevers. Dit werd 'Het wrak'.
Helaas bleken plichtgevoel en depressie me nog niet te hebben verlaten en ik had een jaar of tien nodig om af te rekenen met verkeerde gedachtenpatronen en ongezonde invloeden. Over dit proces schreef ik de boeken 'Indrukwekkende Vrijheid' (uitgekomen in 2010) en 'De loser die wint ...' (2015).
Toen realiseerde ik me eindelijk dat ik geen stress had omdat ik zo graag verhalen wilde schrijven, maar omdat ik te weinig schreef. Dit leidde ertoe dat 'Neptunus' in 2013 nogmaals werd uitgegeven, gevolgd door een tweede SF-thriller 'De Derde Macht'. Het fantasytweeluik 'De Krakenvorst' waar ik in 2001 al aan was begonnen, wist ik ook te voltooien. 'Boek 1: Keruga' verscheen in 2016, gevolgd door 'Boek 2: Kartaalmon' in 2017. Tussendoor kwam mijn eerste bundel SF-verhalen 'Conquistador' uit in 2017.
Korte verhalen van mijn hand werden geplaatst in meerdere tijdschriften, zoals Fantastische Vertellingen en SF Terra, en in bundels zoals Ganymedes 15, 16 en 17, Edge.Zero 2016, Wereldbedenkers, Achterblijvers en Tenenkrommende Verhalen. Ondertussen schrijf ik essays voor geekwebsite Fantasize en recensies voor Fantastische Vertellingen.
Mijn tweede SF-verhalenbundel 'Het teken in de lucht' komt eind september 2018 uit bij Godijn Publishing, als deel van Boek10-2018 en Macc publiceert in november 2018 mijn harde SF-roman 'De afvallige ster', die grote concepten combineert met persoonlijke thema's, zoals pesten. Tussendoor komt bij Versa een novelle uit die zich afspeelt in de wereld van Dizary.
In 2019 brengt Fantastische Vertellingen een boekje uit met twee verhalen van mijn hand, 'Mieren en sprinkhanen', en ik werk mee aan een leuk project met andere SF-auteurs. Mijn dystopische SF-roman 'De groene toren' staat ook op de lijst om gepubliceerd te worden en ik werk aan een SF/horror-bundel met 'verontrustende verhalen'. Maar eerst ga ik het vijfde deel van de Castlefestkronieken schrijven. Daarin kan ik eindelijk mijn liefde voor dinosaurussen weer uitleven! ...more

Korte verhalen in overvloed en Conquistador te bestellen

Nog maar elf dagen en dan is het zover! Dan verschijnt mijn zevende boek, de SF-bundel 'Conquistador' met elf onderling samenhangende verhalen en een novelle. Mijn adrenalinespiegels zijn ondertussen alweer zo hoog dat ik er onrustig van slaap en de stijve nek waarmee ik vanochtend wakker werd zal ook niet toevallig zijn.
