Jamie Dalton writes contemporary gothic vampire fiction where the supernatural is never quite what it seems – and falling in love won't make it any better.

With a background in English and Psychology, she crafts stories that explore grief, violence, and desire through characters who are as dangerous to themselves as they are to each other. Her work spans from gothic romance to psychological horror, and all things in between... so long as it's dark, atmospheric, morally all over the place, and refuses the easy answer.

A lifelong devotee of vampire fiction – from Buffy to Anne Rice – Jamie lives in Sheffield with her husband, daughter and more books than she has room for, drawing inspiration from the city's hidden history and her Scottish roots

Not the Disney version, just some weird film with a similar storyline that I really don't remember much about... But the first time we ever watched it, as the credits closed, the entire screen cut to white noise (as they tended to do) and out of nowhere, it faded away and showed this animated panning shot of a fancy ballroom, viewed through tall, ornate windows... and inside, the Disney version of Pocahontas was dancing around with a partner in a huge, flouncy yellow dress. It cut to black, and from then on, whenever we put the VHS on, we never saw the scene. It just disappeared.

A few years later, we saw the exact same scene again – on a trailer for Disney's Pocahontas 2, which was released later that month. We never figured that one out, how we managed to see a scene from a trailer for a film that wasn't even in production yet... but we both saw the same thing and remember it perfectly. I'm guessing it was a bit of a glitch in the Matrix.(less)

Book Review: Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V. E. Schwab

Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Buckle up, this is a LONG one...

I want to preface this by saying I wanted to love this book. I didn't like Addie (for many of the same reasons I took issue with Bury Our Bones), but I DO love vampires, and I've enjoyed all of Schwab's other work.

As someone with my specific background (psychology and literature), I was mas Read more of this blog post »
