Psychology and writing (or writing and psychology) have always vied for the number one spot on my list of greatest passions. I am now a retired psychotherapist and can afford to spend as much time as I want on my writing.

I am in Heaven! (Well, actually I live in Florida now.)

Some people have asked me if my protagonist, psychotherapist Kate Huntington, is me. I wish! She's much more consistently kind and compassionate than I am.

I was born and raised in Maryland and lived there most of my adult life. In addition to my psychotherapy practice, I also taught at Towson University for a decade. It was my favorite job of my entire lifetime, so I decided to base my first series, the Kate Huntington mysteries, in Towson, Maryland. My newer series, a

My paternal great grandfather was named after Andrew Jackson and my grandmother said they were related to the former President. My mother was skeptical and pointed out to me one time that people often named kids after someone famous whom they admired.

I could have a heroine inherit her grandparents' house and discover evidence of being related to...hmm, maybe a famous pirate. (less)

I’m Thankful I’m a Clumsy Gardener (an Encore)

by Kassandra Lamb ~ I wrote this post originally in 2019. It’s still a fun post (and a true story), so I thought I’d run it again. Here’s why I’m thankful I’m a clumsy gardener.

As a follow-up to a previous post, When Your Garden Tries to Kill You, I had promised to tell the rest of the story of how my garden tried to kill (or at least maim) me and why I’m thankful that happened.

This month marks th

This is one of those stories.

This story starts out a bit slow, even for a quaint English village cozy. The author took a tad too long (for my taste) introducing the setting and the characters. Some of the latter could have been brought in later.

That’s my main complaint, because

“and maybe he was a good cop until he got promoted to detective. Now he thinks he’s got enough power, he can do whatever he wants. But sometimes that’s the very thing that brings men like him down. They get so arrogant they make mistakes,”
Kassandra Lamb, Multiple Motives

“Grief is never just about the person who’s gone. It’s about what their loss means to us.”
Kassandra Lamb, To Kill a Labrador

“definition of trauma is something so overwhelming that we can’t process it emotionally at the time it happens. Even the strongest people may struggle with processing those emotions later. Indeed, stronger people are more likely to push aside their feelings so they can act to get themselves out of the bad situation. Which is exactly what you did. But those feelings don’t just go away, not until we let ourselves feel them, so we can get them out of our systems. And telling ourselves it’s over or that we shouldn’t feel that way doesn’t work.” The waitress chose that moment to bring their food.”
