My Inner Queen of Wands
When tarot teachers tell you to pay particular attention to cards that you "don't like," there is a reason. For me, when a card that rubs me the wrong way turns up continually, as if haunting or
taunting me, I can be sure that aspect of me is going to grow and push and poke until it is manifest in my life.
It happened (and is actually still in process) with the High Priestess. And I just realized that ever since summer 2009, the High Priestess's boisterous cousin, the Queen of Wands has been also
gnawing her way out of my subconscious and into my actual life.
This Queen has not really been my friend, as I mention here: Click
In August of 2009, I wrote:
I have
always thought of myself as a King of Swords/Queen of Pentacles-type girl. But lately, I've been having an identity crisis or sorts. It all started at this year's

Kiva
You know I love this organization. Next month, I'll be doing another drawing to raise money for our team! The prize will be an Out Of Print deck--The Victoria Regina Tarot.
Anna K Tarot
I never expected this deck to become my "soul" deck. But it seems to embody one of my spirit guides and really shares information quite easily. Also, I read at a psychic fair using this
deck...almost everyone said how much they loved it.
Little Women
At this time of year, I love watching Little Women. I used to have about 5 different versions, but since our video player died, I lost most of them and am slowly replacing them with DVD
versions. I just watched the recent one, with Winona Ryder and Susan Sarandon.

This is a very exciting book, particularly since predictive tarot readers are starting ...

Running Toward a Goal
find the program and details here. Click!
Using this program, I achieved my goals of running an average of 3 times per week and running in 3 formal 5Ks. Hurray for me! I am not fast, but that's quite alright.
And what has this got to do with tarot? Two things, really. First, I remember the first few weeks of running. It was pretty hard, probably the hardest part of the whole year. I remember focusing
on the elements and asking the Universe to help me. I honored Wands, thinking of my will power, which sometimes was the only thing that kept me putting one foot in front of the other. I celebrated
Cups through the blood flowing through my veins, supplying my poor muscles, so unused to such activity, with oxygen. Swords, of course, was the air that was so hard sometimes to take in, gasping and
huffing and puffing. At the worst times, I lost myself in visualizing and feeling the air flowing in, the air flowing out, smoothly, without gasping. It helped. Finally, Pentacles, the earth and the
physical world. My body, my feet meeting the earth over and over again, ...

Willing to Surrender
But I'm conflicted, too, as I don't want to be a trend-follower or someone who misappropriates another's culture.
However, I cannot deny that the few practices I've woven into my personal spiritual practice have profoundly affected me. They say that shamanism and shamanistic journeys are not all unicorns and butterflies. This is serious stuff and includes asking the gods and goddesses to tear you to pieces. Tiny, little, ragged pieces.
The shamanistic flavor to my seeking coincides with the culmination of my struggles with the High Priestess card. I have never, until recently, been comfortable with this card or the part of myself that this card represents. There can be, in my opinion, no shaman anything without the High Priestess.

Unmasking Our Cards
One of the wonderful things about tarot, about each individual card, is that every image opens the door to infinite worlds. That is also one of the problems...particularly when we read for ourselves.
Reading for ourselves can be very rewarding and, at best, can be an important part of our spiritual practice. However, there are inherent pitfalls. It is easy, oh so easy!, to see in the cards
exactly what we want to see. At least, for me, that can sometimes be a problem.
This technique, I have found, is really useful when you think you might just possibly be projecting your own wished onto the cards. It helps provide a little objectivity and encourage looking at
things from alternate points of view. If, after trying this, it may be that your original reading was correct. If so, this won't hurt anything but rather it'll reinforce your initial opinion. Plus,
it gives you an excuse to play with your cards for a while longer. So, it is a win-win-win situation.
Here's how it works:
Let's say we want to know about a ...

Spirit Guides Reading
These monthly specials change about mid-month and are available for about 30 days. They are seasonal, reflecting and making use of the particular energies of the time they are offered. They include:
1. A story or background information on the spread itself or the theme.
2. The spread with directions so that my fellow tarot readers can use these spreads with their clients or so anyone can use them for themselves or their friends.
3. A reading done by me for you using the spread.
4. Three journaling prompts or questions for reflection, so you can delve more deeply into the wisdom revealed in the reading.
Your Spirit Guides Reading will help identify one or more of your guides, give advice for working with them, express messages they wish to share, and, in some cases, identify blocks that are keeping you from hearing or interacting with your guide or guides.
I hope I will be doing one for you this month!

Ciro Marchetti and I, Live!
I semi-jokingly say that my finest contribution to the tarot world is discovering Ciro Marchetti. To be honest, I think he would have found his way to tarot in any case, but I like to make the most of my "discovery" of his work. You can hear the whole story on the show.
Ciro will talk about his three decks, the Gilded Tarot, the Tarot of Dreams, and the Legacy of the Divine Tarot. He may also discuss his current work in progress, a stunningly beautiful Oracle deck.
I will talk about Tarot for Beginners (just a bit) and share some fun activities for exploring the cards and ourselves. Even if we don't have burning questions to ask the tarot, there are always things to explore.

Tarot for Beginners
The very first time I handled a tarot deck, I somehow knew that while the cards were pieces of paper with pictures on them, I also knew that they were much more. I knew that
through the cards secrets could be revealed and entire worlds could be discovered.
Despite being comprised of a finite number of cards, seventy-eight to be exact, tarot opens us to an infinite universe, both within and without. A newcomer can be overwhelmed by
the vastness of the tarot landscape. In addition to the general "bigness" of it all, there is that delightful, freeing aspect of tarot that can also be the bane of a beginner's experience: there are
very few hand and fast rules with tarot.
A Few Simple Questions
This truth shapes the first phase of learning tarot. The tarot is a mirror, and a tarot reading is a reflection of one's worldview, a glimpse of a belief system. Before you
progress very far in your tarot studies, it helps to know what you believe in. Let me explain.
What you believe in will help you answer or decide many of those things for which there are no hard and fast rules. For example:
1. Should you let other people touch your cards?
The answer depends on what you believe about energy, its transference in the physical realm, ...
