I think Shamanism is rather popular and trendy now. Well, as popular and trendy as such a thing can be. Whenever I say that I am currently exploring Shaman-esque techniques I feel like my cool-quotient goes up a little. But that's probably all in my head.
But I'm conflicted, too, as I don't want to be a trend-follower or someone who misappropriates another's culture.
However, I cannot deny that the few practices I've woven into my personal spiritual practice have profoundly affected me. They say that shamanism and shamanistic journeys are not all unicorns and butterflies. This is serious stuff and includes asking the gods and goddesses to tear you to pieces. Tiny, little, ragged pieces.
The shamanistic flavor to my seeking coincides with the culmination of my struggles with the High Priestess card. I have never, until recently, been comfortable with this card or the part of myself that this card represents. There can be, in my opinion, no shaman anything without the High Priestess.
