I can’t justify giving this book more than 2 stars, and honestly I was debating rating it a 1. As much as I love most of the princes (key word being most - yes, Kel, I’m looking at you, you awful bastard), there are so many things in this book that a I can’t justify giving this book more than 2 stars, and honestly I was debating rating it a 1. As much as I love most of the princes (key word being most - yes, Kel, I’m looking at you, you awful bastard), there are so many things in this book that are just… ugh.

1. Rosalina. I HATE HER SO MUCH. She’s absolute wet cardboard, with no personality and no defining traits aside from the fact she’s ’kind’. She hasn’t got a single brain cell rattling around in her head, and spends most of the book and the prior book making STUPID ass decisions, despite literally everyone telling her not to. Character development? Can’t find her. It’s hard to root for FIVE romances when I genuinely do not understand what they all see in her. She pisses me off every time she appears on page.

2. Rosalina being a side character in her own story. She literally does NOT serve the plot. She’s useless and weak, doesn’t know how to fight (which, when she’s called out on this, her excuse is ‘well, the princes always protect me’, like, girl), and as mentioned above, she can’t think of a single bright idea to save her own life. I genuinely feel like she can be taken out of the plot and it wouldn’t make a lick of fucking difference. The entire point of her existence is to pine after five men, and that is literally ALL her life revolves around. Her powers are poorly developed and only used to serve the plot, and again, she only uses them to protect ‘her’ princes. Not a single braincell. Not one.

3. The plot twists. Awful. You can see them coming from an absolute mile away and they’re so dragged out too. I knew Rosalina was fae from the first book. I know her mother is probably the long-lost queen. I know all five of the princes are her mates. Why is it being dragged out so much?? Why are there going to be SEVEN BOOKS? Why do we still not know what happened between Kel and Cas? Why is Rosalina only discovering one mate per book when it’s SO FUCKING OBVIOUS all of them are her mates? (And don’t even talk to me about the whole Caspian telepathy thing, because at that point it’s being jammed down her throat and she STILL doesn’t get it. Sigh).

4. The relationship between Farron and Dayton. Just want to put a little disclaimer, I LOVE them, and if it was up to me, Rosalina would be sent back to Orca Cave where she belongs and Farron and Day would get their happily ever after. They have more chemistry than Rosalina and all five princes combined. BUT, I think Rosalina being Farron’s mate, but Dayton and Farron not being mates, just cheapens their entire relationship. Not to mention, there’s a whole dragged out ‘I love him but won’t tell him so’ thing between Farron and Dayton, which is getting annoying in its own right, but Farron is comfortable showing affection for Rosalina? Why? Again, what makes her so special when they have ZERO chemistry? Farron claims to love them both, and has known Dayton a lot longer, but they’re still in this weird friends with benefits thing. Idk, it’s just rubbing me the wrong way because it’s starting to feel like an excuse for a MMF threesome instead of a developed three-way relationship.

5. Cringey and repetitive writing. Overuse of “heck” and “freaking”, for example, bearing in mind Rosalina is 26 years old and still talks like a child. My eyes nearly rolled out of my head when “oh fiddlesticks” was used unironically. Also, if I see “my mate”, “our girl” or “my princes” one more time I’m going to SCREAM. Just use each other’s names!!!

Anyway… if you read this far, I applaud you. And to end on a positive note…
