Shutdown Is Almost Here!
Final edits were submitted for my debut novel, Shutdown, and I've been told to expect the release in early December 2014. That's right, next month. This book has had a long journey. I wrote the first, very rough draft of this back in the 90's and then set it aside for all this time, until I finally decided it was time to get serious about this writing stuff. I've had a great experience with the staff over at J. Ellington Ashton Press, from the edits to the cover design, the whole thing has been great. I'm really looking forward to the release and seeing what everyone thinks.
So, to get ready, below I've added the back blurb, just to tease and get everyone excited. Hope you enjoy.
"There are ancient secrets buried in the world, under dirt, rock and sand. Sometimes they are buried for a reason. GenCross, a genetics company in Toronto, wants to learn the secrets, good or bad. So do others and they’ll do anything to get them.
Tim “Mouse” Jones is a university drop out who found success as a hacker. When he’s offered a job to make more money than ever, it’s hard to say no. Even if it means breaking into one of the most secure buildings in the city. The security system and the guards will be hard to get past, but the money is just too tempting to say no to. Greed is an ugly monster.
Amanda McMichaels works in the Cross building and knows something about monsters. She lives with one, and work is her only escape from him. Yet the monster at home is nothing compared to what lives on the 10th floor of the Cross building.
As the building shuts down, and the secret evil awakens, Amanda and Mouse are drawn together and must help each other to survive those that are hunting them.
Some things should stay buried."

Shutdown has Touched Down
The time has finally arrived. My debut novel, Shutdown, was released this week from J Ellington Ashton Press. The book is a mix of Sci-fi and horror. One early response to the story was that it reads like Die Hard if it was written by HP Lovecraft. Here's the blurb from the back:
"There are ancient secrets buried in the world, under dirt, rock and sand. Sometimes they are buried for a reason. GenCross, a genetics company in Toronto, wants to learn the secrets, good or bad. So do others and they’ll do anything to get them.

What's new
It's been a busy time here on the home front since I last posted a blog. Last month, the long awaited Midian Unmade: Tales of Clive Barker's Nightbreed was released, and it's been getting great reviews. Not only that, but my story, And Midian Whispered Its Name, was even mentioned in Rue Morgue. How cool is that?
As you know (if you've been reading these), I also finished work on my new novel, Maymon and shipped it off to a publisher. No word yet, but these things take time. Maymon is an occult horror novel.
I also finished up writing the second Dillon novel, Earthbound and Down, and that one is set to be published in mid 2016. This one picks up where The Gate at Lake Drive and introduces new characters that will play big roles in next books.
I've already begun my next non-Dillon novel and I'm nearly halfway through writing it. It's called Gone Crazy...Be Back Soon. Even though there are a lot of horror elements this one is a bit different than my normal style of writing.
I've also put together a short collection of short stories (6 in all) that all take place in the south, mainly Kentucky. This book will be called Blood in the Hills and the stories will range from Lovecraftian, to ghost stories, to human horror. It should be due out early 2016.
Also, in time for Halloween, Dark Reaches is finally getting released. This is my third collection of short stories and will feature some previously published short stories (The Soldier, Dreams of a Dead Man and Taut) as well as new fiction (The Cleansing, Mr. Stand and Mommy's Little Demon). Still working on the cover, but stay tuned for the release next month.
I have a few short stories coming out in magazines and anthologies. The next one will be in a collection called All That Remains (from JEA Press). This one features my story called Under the Apple Tree.
Writing is about to slow down though. At the end of October I will be going away for two weeks to the most badass place a horror writer could go. That's right, Walt Disney World. I'll be heading there on October 31st with Mina for 14 days! Anyone who knows me knows how much I love it there and at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I might write about all things bloody and gooey, but there's still a big kid in my and I embrace that side fully. If you can't have a little fun and silliness in your life, you're not really living.
