Dillon the Monster Dick

Don't worry, the title has nothing to do with porn. What is it then? This is a new book and short stories series I am developing. Without giving too much away, I was writing a new short story this week, originally called Gossip, about a guy hunting down a monster that is terrorizing a school. The story seemed okay, a quicky flash fiction piece that I was going to send off to somewhere like One Buck Horror. As I started the second draft, the story began to grow into something more, a back story popped in here and there and the main character, Dillon, began to take on a life of his own. So much so, that as I was writing it, I realized that he was going to be a new ongoing character and by the end of the day I had six short stories outline and the overview of two novels involving him. So who is Dillon? On the surface he is a dark and sarcastic guy that makes a living hunting down monsters and demons. He has a website called MONSTERDICK.COM (why he calls it that is explained in the story Monsters Love Trees and is an going joke) where people contact him if they have a problem with things that go bump in the night.
Now, there are a lot more layers to Dillon and the things he hunts, not to mention people that help him and hire him to do work. There will be a bit of a Noir feel to some of the stories, but what I like about them so far is that I will be able to let out some of my strange sense of humor in these ones.
Right now, two of the stories with Dillon in it are done, The Undergarment Eater and Monsters Love Trees. I hope to get these polished up pretty quick and send them out, hoping that one of the publishers will see the sense of humor and the potential for a series here. I will keep you all up to date on releases.

New book contract and other releases

This week I signed a contract with IFWG Publishing for my second novel, The Gate at Lake Drive. That's the second contract for a novel signed this year, which makes me pretty happy. The book is due out next year and is the first book in the Dillon the Monster Dick series. The first short story that featured him, The Undergarment Eater, appeared in in Dark Eclipse issue 29.
Here's the post from IFWG Publishing:

http://ifwgpublishing.com/2014/09/13/...

So here's what is due out over the next year or so:

Demon Rum and other Evil Spirits - featuring "The Olive Branch" Fall 2014

Dark Reaches: a collection Winter 2014 from Inherit Press

Insidious Assassins - featuring "Dead Bill" late 2014/early 2014

Shutdown - novel late 2014/early 2015 from JEA Press

Shrieks and Shivers from the Horror Zine - featuring "Stash House" early 2015

Midian Unmade: Tales of Clive Barker's Nightbreed - featuring "And Midian Whispered Its Name" July 15 2015

Autumn's Jar and other stories: a collection fall 2015 from Inherit Press

The Gate at Lake Drive: novel mid/late 2015 from IFWG Publishing

As you can see, there are a few less magazines and anthologies as compared to the last two years, but that's all because I'm trying to focus more on novels. I'm looking forward to seeing how people like the longer format.
There will be other things set to come out, I have 5 short stories out in the ether, and I'm almost done my third novel, Maymon and set to start my fourth novel right after that called, Earthbound and Down (the second Dillon novel).
Stay tuned here and on my Facebook page for updates and contests.

What's new

It's been a busy time here on the home front since I last posted a blog. Last month, the long awaited Midian Unmade: Tales of Clive Barker's Nightbreed was released, and it's been getting great reviews. Not only that, but my story, And Midian Whispered Its Name, was even mentioned in Rue Morgue. How cool is that?

As you know (if you've been reading these), I also finished work on my new novel, Maymon and shipped it off to a publisher. No word yet, but these things take time. Maymon is an occult horror novel.

I also finished up writing the second Dillon novel, Earthbound and Down, and that one is set to be published in mid 2016. This one picks up where The Gate at Lake Drive and introduces new characters that will play big roles in next books.

I've already begun my next non-Dillon novel and I'm nearly halfway through writing it. It's called Gone Crazy...Be Back Soon. Even though there are a lot of horror elements this one is a bit different than my normal style of writing.

I've also put together a short collection of short stories (6 in all) that all take place in the south, mainly Kentucky. This book will be called Blood in the Hills and the stories will range from Lovecraftian, to ghost stories, to human horror. It should be due out early 2016.

Also, in time for Halloween, Dark Reaches is finally getting released. This is my third collection of short stories and will feature some previously published short stories (The Soldier, Dreams of a Dead Man and Taut) as well as new fiction (The Cleansing, Mr. Stand and Mommy's Little Demon). Still working on the cover, but stay tuned for the release next month.

I have a few short stories coming out in magazines and anthologies. The next one will be in a collection called All That Remains (from JEA Press). This one features my story called Under the Apple Tree.

Writing is about to slow down though. At the end of October I will be going away for two weeks to the most badass place a horror writer could go. That's right, Walt Disney World. I'll be heading there on October 31st with Mina for 14 days! Anyone who knows me knows how much I love it there and at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I might write about all things bloody and gooey, but there's still a big kid in my and I embrace that side fully. If you can't have a little fun and silliness in your life, you're not really living.

News and stuff

Well, I've been busy this year. Unlike the last two years though, I've spent a lot less time writing short fiction and have been working on novels and novellas. That's not to say I'm not writing any. I have three collections in the works, and will release on every year over the next three years. They'll be called Dark Reaches, Autumn's Jar and other stories and Salt on the Wounds.

I did just have two stories published this week, well, re-published. The magazine, Rouge Nation, picked up Dreams of a Dead Man and Treats to be published in their print magazine. If you've never picked up one of their magazines before, no better time than now. Here's a link to get it:

In other news, I had an article published in Festivale's online magazine. Anyone who knows me knows that I have a long term love affair with movies, both of the good and bad variety. One thing I'd been noticing though over the last little while, is the hate people have on remakes. I agree there are bad choices made when it comes to remaking movies, but without them, we wouldn't have classics like The Fly or John Carpenter's The Thing. You can read the whole article here:

I was also featured on This Is Horror. So, if you want to know a little bit more about me, you can read that here:

I'm still working on the new novel, Gone Crazy...Be Back Soon and hope to have release dates for my next two novels, Maymon and Earthbound and Down (book two in the Dillon the Monster Dick series). Check back soon!

Dillon is back!

Earthbound and Down (Dillon the Monster Dick Book 2) by Shaun Meeks

After a bit of an absence, Dillon the Monster Dick returns in book 2 of the series, Earthbound and Down. The book continues where The Gate at Lake Drive left off. Bringing back old characters and introducing you to new ones, Earthbound and Down has the same humor, horror, and bizarre world the first had.

From the back cover:
Around the city, kids are going missing and the police are at their wits end to come up with any sort of clue as to who or what might be involved. Despite his beliefs, the lead detective involved listens to a friend and contacts Dillon, someone claiming to be a monster hunter. Dillon listens to what the detective says and agrees to help. Lucky for them.

Not so lucky for Dillon.

While he's normally game to hunt down any strange creature that might've found their way to this world - even a giant Hellion bent on consuming the planet - he is unprepared for what lies in wait for him. Despite how strange his job is, there are still rules even a monster detective must follow, but to ignore the situation might only put more innocent lives at risk.

Unable to ignore his feeling of duty, Dillon forgoes the rules and joins forces with the detective and an old friend to find the monster who is stealing kids and the master who is controlling it.
