The Gate at Lake Drive

The Gate at Lake Drive The Gate at Lake Drive by Shaun Meeks

Well, it's finally here. The Gate at Lake Drive has been released from IFWG Publishing. If you've read the short story, The Undergarment Eater, you'll be familiar with the main character, Dillon the Monster Dick. If you're not, don't worry, this'll be the first of many novels featuring him. It also includes the short story mentioned above.
So what's it all about? Here's a clip from the back of the book:
"Meet Dillon, the Monster Dick. He’s a detective of sorts, a man hired to hunt down things that have come into our world that have no right to be here. Whether it’s a monster made up of paint cans and rags, spirits hidden in carpets or animals possessed by demons, Dillon will dispatch them as soon as he finds them.
His new job is up in northern Ontario, where the mayor has hired him to deal a swarm of creatures that seem to be coming from a whirlpool in the middle of the lake. When he hears this, he’s more worried than he’s ever been. In all the years Dillon has been a hunter, he’s never once heard of a flock of monsters coming into this realm at the same time.
Dillon heads there with his new friend, burlesque performer Rouge Hills and finds nothing is what it seems. It’s not just one type of monster, but something far worse trying to be born into our world. The odds are stacked against him, but since the money is good, there’s no turning back.
From Shaun Meeks, the author of At the Gates of Madness and Shutdown, comes book one in the Dillon the Monster Dick series."
If you like horror, monsters, demons, monster hunters, zombies, noir and burlesque, this one is for you.

News and stuff

Well, I've been busy this year. Unlike the last two years though, I've spent a lot less time writing short fiction and have been working on novels and novellas. That's not to say I'm not writing any. I have three collections in the works, and will release on every year over the next three years. They'll be called Dark Reaches, Autumn's Jar and other stories and Salt on the Wounds.

I did just have two stories published this week, well, re-published. The magazine, Rouge Nation, picked up Dreams of a Dead Man and Treats to be published in their print magazine. If you've never picked up one of their magazines before, no better time than now. Here's a link to get it:

In other news, I had an article published in Festivale's online magazine. Anyone who knows me knows that I have a long term love affair with movies, both of the good and bad variety. One thing I'd been noticing though over the last little while, is the hate people have on remakes. I agree there are bad choices made when it comes to remaking movies, but without them, we wouldn't have classics like The Fly or John Carpenter's The Thing. You can read the whole article here:

I was also featured on This Is Horror. So, if you want to know a little bit more about me, you can read that here:

I'm still working on the new novel, Gone Crazy...Be Back Soon and hope to have release dates for my next two novels, Maymon and Earthbound and Down (book two in the Dillon the Monster Dick series). Check back soon!

At long last...Dark Reaches

Last year I announced the release of my second full collection called Dark Reaches. It was expected for release in 2015, but due to some issues with the cover, and other releases, it was pushed back and back and back. It happens. Nothing can be done about it, but to announce that it's finally on the horizon. Right now the last edits on the cover are being touched up and then it'll be sent out into the world where it should be.

Dark Reaches will feature 16 short stories. Some have appeared in magazines and anthologies before, and others are seeing the light of day for the first time. Three of the stories are re-edits of previously released ones, where parts that had been cut before for the sake of length have been re-added to return the story to the original tale. There's a Dillon the Monster Dick short story in here, my first YA story, an out of print zombie erotica story and the very first story I ever sold. This collection is miles above where At the Gates of Madness was and I can't wait to see how people react to it. There are ghost stories, monsters, zombies, demons, unfortunate situations and death in these stories. There may also be a hidden surprise somewhere as well.

Originally, a story called Miriam was supposed to appear in here. It first appeared in Dark Light anthology book 3, but was removed due to the next anthology I release being called Miriam and other stories, with a cover that'll make it all worth it. So, with the removal of that, I added one called Despair, from Someone Wicked. It's a good switch and did nothing to take away from the flow of the book.

With that change, here's the new ToC:

Introduction
The Soldier
Dreams of a Dead Man
Angel in the High Tower
House in the Valley
Give Me Convenience
The Cleansing*
Mr. Stand*
Shelly’s Tape
Family Lessons
Despair
Mommy’s Little Demon*
The Old Man*
The Undergarment Eater
Perfection Through Silence
Body Bag
Taut
Afterword

The book is due out mid June 2106. Links will be posted once it's out and review copies will be available if you PM me.

Dillon Returns for Thirds

Altered Gate by Shaun Meeks

On May 3rd, the third book in the Dillon the Monster Dick series was released. The book, Altered Gate, continues shortly after the events in Earthbound and Down, with Dillon, Rouge Hills, Godfrey, and few familiar faces dealing with a new threat. This time, the case Dillon is hired for leads him to Niagara Falls, where a real estate agent seems to be having some issues. The case twists and turns to a point where Dillon starts to question what is real, and what is madness.

I'm thankful to IFWG Publishing for once again having the super talented Steve Santiago do the cover for this, and all the other books so far in the series.

There will be more Dillon in the future. There are three more at least to come. That I can say for sure. The stakes will get higher, and the monsters more terrifying. I hope everyone enjoys the adventure, and I look forward to hearing what everyone thinks.
