Sometimes, watching an emotional TV show or film can help bring the feelings to the surface. I'll think "How would I have handled that situation?" and that will start my wheels turning.(less)

Also, when you get letters from your readers and they tell you that your characters have validated and inspired them in some way. I have cried over many letters that I've received from these sweet young people who feel like outcasts because they are gay or trans or they don't fit the rules of society somehow. I like to try to give them support and love and let them know that they're worth something. They're worth a LOT! That makes me happy. A lot of us in the LGBTQ+ community feel shunned at times. It's very important to have representation in books, films, music, and entertainment.(less)

This book is one of the most incredible short stories that I've ever read. The use of language is absolutely gorgeous, although it may be too much for some readers. I was swept away immediately into historical times and was surprised to find that my ...more

“You have to be strong to be a phoenix... Otherwise, you're simply dust. Stand up, shake it off. Expand your wings. I know that it hurts, but the scars are a testimony to your strength. Stay proud, stay fierce. Never surrender.”
Lioness DeWinter

“Of course, I had seen him around the neighborhood, dressed head to toe in his odd, androgynous fashion, his lithe figure clad in his customary white, his gentle face painted as fair as a flower in the afternoon sun. He seemed hopelessly out of place in the cement jungle of New York City; it was as if he had stepped through time itself and ended up here by accident--a white lily in the concrete, beauty and innocence among the ruins of decadance.”
Lioness DeWinter

“One of your fathers is a god. Your other Daddy only thinks that he is.”
Lioness DeWinter, Corinthians

“I believe with all my heart that the cliches are true, that we are our own best friends and best company, and that if you're not right for yourself, it's impossible to be right for anyone.”
Rachel Machacek, The Science of Single: One Woman's Grand Experiment in Modern Dating, Creating Chemistry, and Finding Love

“Go to heaven for the climate and hell for the company.”
Benjamin Franklin Wade

“We have to dare to be ourselves, however frightening or strange that self may prove to be.”
May Sarton

“Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible.”
Frank Zappa

“Woman is sacred; the woman one loves is holy.”
Alexandre Dumas, The Count of Monte Cristo
