Martin Cosgrove writes science fiction in the North West of England.

His latest is Curiosity, a two-book first contact series. In THE CROSSING, a twenty-five-year-old research vessel and a crew nobody would have chosen are sent eight thousand light years to answer a signal that has been repeating for two hundred years. In THE DESCENT, they find out what has been sending it, and why three hundred and forty-one earlier warnings reached Earth and were quietly filed. Both books are out, so there is no wait between them.

He is also the author of THE DESTINY OF ETHAN KING, KARA and the PEMBLETON, PhD series, and he teaches in a secondary school.

You can read the first chapter, open the crew files and listen to the transmission itself at curiositynov

Which Role Would You Choose Aboard Curiosity?

Retro-futurist recruitment poster featuring Captain Jennifer Starzek and the Curiosity spacecraft

A signal has travelled eight thousand light-years from a dying star. Answering it means crossing the galaxy aboard a twenty-five-year-old research vessel with a crew of just six.

It is the sort of mission that sounds romantic from a safe distance. Up close, it means fifty-three days with nowhere to hide, no rescue close enough to matter, and six very different people trusting one another with t

“For the length of time it takes to write a book, you need to believe that you’re the only writer in existence; the only one who matters. You need to shut yourself away and allow the creativity to build up, not leak out through worry and comparisons and doubt.”
Martin Cosgrove

“I dip my toe into the ocean of Joy and quickly withdraw it, afraid of the sea creatures of the mind.”
Martin Cosgrove

“Death is a concept for fatalists and fools. And dead people.”
