Hydra M. Star began zir existence as one half of a set of twin fetuses. Ze ate zir twin in utero. Almost from zir birth—as an only child—ze had an intense interest in all things mysterious and magical. As ze aged, zir taste matured and darkened from the Disney-esque styled fairy stories of childhood to the Erotic Horror and Dark Fantasy ze writes and publishes today. Zir work is often inspired by legend and folklore, with violent werewolf sex being one of zir favorite things. Consider your triggers warned.

I get questions about my name a lot. Here's my answer to all things related to my name:

My given name was a very common one and growing up there were several girls in my town, around my age, with the same name. One girl and I shared both first, middle, and last names. So, as you can probably imagine, to clear up the confusion was given and went through a few different nicknames as a kid/teen before finally settling onto Hydra in my late teens. It was a reference to the many headed monster from Greek mythology and how often I changed my hair color/style...and, yes, "Hydra" is to this day what most people in my life (family and friends) call me. It's the name on the outgoing message on my cell phone, I get mail delivered to me under it, etc., etc., etc.

My senior year of high school I add the last name Star, making it Hydra Star, which I got from a Marilyn Manson song (What can I say? I was a teenager and his stuff was cool.) and started publishing some poetry under that name.

I added in the M. later, also as a reference to Greek/Roman mythology and Lucifer. Which made it Hydra M. Star.

In the end, all of this has really worked out for the best, because there's a romance writer that shares my original name and if I still used it that would make marketing and publishing and such all the more difficult.(less)
