This book reminded me of the writings of Carl Hiaasen (wackiness), CJ Box (darkness) and Steven King (otherworldly) all rolled into one. Not quite at those author levels, but interesting.

For an author who tells you the ending in the first chapter, this book kept me engaged. Just the little story of two families in 1980s Shaker Heights, Ohio, but Ng sure can write characters, situations, and interactions to enliven her work.

For having the main character be a private investigator, this was boring. Really boring.
