Born to a preacher/school teacher and a homemaker in a town known best for Patti Page and the Dalton Brothers (a singer and bank robbers), my sister and brother and I were moved to Georgia when our mother remarried a man who designed airplanes.

I studied news writing at the University of Georgia, then put those dreams on hold to marry my high school sweetheart and travel the world for the next 20 years as a soldier's better half. Our three children visited five continents before they ever visited Florida, our next door neighbor when the Army career was over.

There are many books whose authors I admire for the work creating a book I love. But I've listed these five artists as my favorites because I've read everything they've ever written and will continue to do so. I like some of their work more than others, but they've won my faith. I'll give any book they write a read and a chance. They've proved themselves to me.
