Richard Abbott writes both historical and speculative fiction. The Ancient Trackways and Kephrath series of books explore the world of the past. Half Sick of Shadows and the Far from the Spaceports series are set in speculative and science fiction worlds.

The Ancient Trackways immerses you in the Cumbria of the late Stone Age, where axe-making artisans are facing challenges to their ancestral way of life.

Half Sick of Shadows is a retelling and metamorphosis of the Arthurian tale of The Lady of Shalott. The book was awarded an IndieBrag medallion in December 2017.

The Far from the Spaceports series is set in a near-future solar system where human-AI partnerships are common.

Nobody quite knows what happened, but the overall impact was to sweep away cultures which had been established for centuries. What was it like to live in those times? To be displaced by incoming armies, and your city burned? Sadly, it is a situation still afflicting that region. I wanted to write this story following each of several different groups, to get a sense of the whole tapestry of culture and life.(less)

Hi Daphne, good to hear from you :) No I hadn't heard of this but will check out the web link you gave. Hope all's well

Daphne Hi Richard.
Wondering if you are familiar with SASA = Save Ancient Studies Alliance. There is soon to be an online event to assemble Ancient Studies scholars who are not members of an academic institution (perhaps because the latter don't consider them to be scholars). See "events" at saveancientstudies-dot-org

Thanks Daphne! I very much appreciate your thoughts. My current work in progress is set rather earlier, near the end of the Neolithic age here in England, but it's a long way off completion yet...

Daphne Richard, I just wanted to say that I sampled Milk and Honeyed Land. It'a truly fantastic. You have a way with narrative and dialogue that plunged me immediately into prehistoric times. And that cliff-hanger - naughty (and clever) of you ! I shall have more :-)

Richard Abbott Likewise, CJ. I know nothing about Florida but the picture of your house looks lovely.
