Really short official-sounding bio: Lilia Ford lives in New York City with her husband and two sons.

Life on Goodreads:
I'm very active on Goodreads, mostly as a reader. I taught 18th and 19th century literature and GREAT BOOKS for many years, but these days, I read almost exclusively in the various permutations of fantasy, M/M, Sci-Fi, and erotica. There are really only two types of books for me: those I like enough to finish, and those I don't. If I like it enough to finish, I will usually give it at least four stars (I don't rate books I don't finish). The ratings are primarily a measure of how much I enjoyed a book--and only secondarily a measure of how much I admired it. I read and adore a lot of trashy books, and can't seem to finish ma

I actually did a lot of work on Classified Defiant back in March and then got sidetracked by a family crisis. Thanks to your note, though, I just pulled it up today and so I could figure out how much more it needs. Verdict: It's about 22,000 words right now, but I've had trouble figuring out the final few scenes--let's see if I can map out the rest (by far the hardest part) and then do the final revision (much easier). I really appreciate your comment and it's definitely inspired me to pick up this story again. (less)

Belated Update: Two New Fics

So in one of those strange impulses that occasionally strikes, I signed up for this year's Steter Secret Santa, which I have to confess is incredibly out of character for me. I had a few nightmares about sad Santees crying over their empty stockings because of my being a basket case, but happily for all involved I managed to come up with two fics for the event. The first is a holiday-themed PWP en Read more of this blog post »

Unsouled by Will Wight
"A foundational start to a series that feels like the beginning of shonen anime in prose form.

I’ve promised many readers—my impatient co-bloggers included—that I’m going to read Cradle as soon as 2020 starts, and so here I am. I’ve been eyeing this se" Read more of this review »

“But that couldn't be... you don't.... That's wrong," she said lamely.

"You mean morally?" Donal looked utterly struck by the notion. "Morally wrong! Well!" He pretended to ponder and then said earnestly, "I should hope so! Honestly, Jenny-girl, moral sex! Where's the point in that?”
Lilia Ford, The Heartwood Box: A Fairy Tale

“Jenny-girl, you might say that the motto of the Black family is 'what's another brother?”
Lilia Ford

“Is he my competition?” I asked.
“Everyone is your competition.” Peter lifted his hand to his
eyes and began lowering it incrementally. “It goes normal human
beings, crazies, republicans, my hand, imaginary characters,
corpses and then, in a moment of lustful psychosis, you.” By the
time he was done, his hand was below the table.
Ouch.”
Dani Alexander

“Staring at Joey's eyes blinking up from his pale face was a bit like inhaling a pound of rock candy while watching puppies play.”
K.A. Mitchell, Collision Course

“Why?" he asked instead. "Why do such things when my death would have benefited you far more?"
Yhalen bent over his knees, resting forehead on his forearm, perhaps not willing to answer, or not able to, strange creature that he was.
"Is that the way your people think?" he asked finally, as he turned his head to peer up at Bloodraven through the thick fall of the hair around his face. "That death is more beneficial than life?”
P.L. Nunn, Bloodraven

“It was a simple lesson, really. He could never, ever allow misplaced ideals to seduce him. He would not employ death as a tool.”
Bonnie Dee, The Nobleman and the Spy

“Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met. It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through.”

Thank you so much! I'll definitely add it: might be a bit of time until I get to it--family in town, followed by Passover break.

message 131: by Alice

Alice the blood blooms clean in you, ruby - can't figure out how to use the "recommend" feature now that GR changed authors from friends to us as followers, but at any rate, thought you might like this fic. It is basically a Stiles character study, but if 1001cranes writes a Derek I love, M_Leigh writes the Stiles I love. Was wondering your thoughts on it. It is second person POV, so if that is not your thing it might be an immediate pass. But I found it an interesting take.
