Connecting Threads: Five Siblings Lost and Found, is a powerful story of identity, belonging, and the resilience of the human spirit. This beautifully illustrated graphic memoir will be available in late Spring 2024

Author/illustrator of GreenBean: True Blue Family, Sleep Baby Sleep, Duerme Bebe Duerme, and Guidelines of Care for Children with Special Health Needs, a public health series. Her work as a pediatric nurse practitioner included caring for children with family disruptions and trauma and providing healing-informed care.

As a child, she loved making stories into little books with few words, many pictures and the occasional map, just like now.

That has been a question that started when I was a young child and has taken most of 40 years of adult life to figure it out. I still don't know my paternal side. There were two likely possibilities. At least today there are many more ways to find out. And I've been so delighted to meet the relatives I have found. Still there are so many questions.(less)

And the reasons can be more complex including abuse or neglect. It's great to see when children are resilient to the disruptions of their lives. For some reason, I'm not seeing a large number of adopted children.

In my own family, my daughter has biological children and one adopted, in an open adoption. Her birth family shares time with her, and in fact she is with her birth mother right now. Her birth mother is from Ethiopia, and her birth father from South Sudan. We are really happy she has these connections to make her life more whole.(less)

The Faint of Heart

The Faint of Heart The Faint of Heart by Kerilynn Wilson

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A bit sci-fi, some speculative fiction, and also a cautionary tale of morals and how feelings and emotions relate to how we behave in life. The premise is that having a heart causes people to have emotions and feelings. Someone opens a service to remove hearts and/or give them something to dull their feelings. It somewhat reminds me o Read more of this blog post »
