5* Amazon.com Review from Australia for Living Dead Lovers

Living dead lovers is a great dark comedy, Valentina and her family are quirky and fun. Some real laugh out loud moments and definitely well worth the read. The characters are well developed and will draw you in leaving you wanting to spend more time in the caravan.

5* for BA from Dawn in the UK

5.0 out of 5 stars

Using a toilet before reading is a must... you don't want to be PYSL :), 29 May 2014

Humour is a personal thing. What makes one person laugh won't necessarily make others laugh.

I think Jonathan Dunne has it right with "Balloon Animals". My husband banned me from reading it in bed at night because of the snorts and chuckles! There's probably a laugh in there for everyone at some point, regardless of their sense of humour.

There are some things I (as a well brought-up lady - HAH!) know I shouldn't laugh at, but I just couldn't help myself.

Kicking 5* LDL review

What a weird, wacky & wonderful world exists inside the head of Jonathan Dunne, and thank goodness he decided to share it with the rest of us! I loved his ' Balloon Animals' and hoped that this one would be as good - and it was. The language and situations described are not for those easily offended, the author doesn't tie things up with a pretty silk bow, he just tells it how it is, but he is funny, albeit dark comedy at times. I also found this book to be on a deeply emotional level at times, quite moving. Another winner for Mr Dunne.

4* Living Dead Lovers from Heather in Connecticut, USA

What an interesting read! I don't think I've read a book like this in a while. Very enjoyable.

The book begins in the present, then goes through an "autobiographical" presentation of the main character's life. Character names are different and humorous. Situations are unique and funny. Because the reader knows how the book ends, it is interesting to see how the author gets there. And then just when I thought I knew what was going to happen, something different happens.

The actual writing is a little different and there are a few weird spellings - I attribute it to the voice of the main character who is largely uneducated. Because it is in her voice, therefore her writing, that's where some of these spellings and odd ways to say happen (another way to say it is that the author is truly writing in his main character's voice).

This book held my attention all the way through, I wanted to see how it played out even though I knew what would happen, and I laughed at many things. It's a love story, it's an "autobiography" of growing up in a strange family, it's a story about confidence and standing up for what you believe in, and it's all very quirky. Go for it and read it!(less)
