The Phantom Coach. Is Death a passenger, or is it our dark consciousness?

Tuesday's Tale of Terror is up on my wordpress. This Tuesday I am featuring a lesser known woman author, Amelia B. Edwards, author of The Phantom Coach, a short story about spirits of the dead.

Edwards was known in the mid-1800s more for her travelers tales than for her horror writing, although she was a friend of Charles Dickens, whom no doubt inspired her.

The Screaming Skull

If only skulls could really scream, right? I mean, if you could imagine a shriek from dead bone, a shrill coming forth from the eye sockets or a growl emerging from behind the teeth. Can you imagine?

If you are drawn to stories about skulls like I am, you will surely enjoy The Screaming Skull by Francis Marion Crawford.

Published in 1908, this is a classic and exciting read. But this is no ordinary horror story. I suggest you really LISTEN to our narrator, Captain Charles Braddock, tell his story. You are a good listener, aren't you? Because the Screaming Skull is written for those who are willing to go beyond the page, beyond the words, and into the voice of the dead.

Stop by my Wordpress blog to read the free story.

Watching a Dead Body in White Linen

Anton Chekhov. Does that name bring back high school or college memories in English literature? Yeah, you remember The Cherry Orchard, The Three Sisters, The Seagull. I'll bet when you think of horror authors, Anton Chekhov does NOT come to mind. Well, I've got one for you by Chekhov. A DEAD BODY. This is a 15-minute read into 19th-century Russia and the dead body is the main character.
