Née à Montréal, l'auteure a été adoptée à Chicoutimi par des parents du Lac-Saint-Jean et du bas du fleuve.

Elle a grandi au Saguenay et y a étudié en informatique et en gestion documentaire (bibliothéconomie et gestion des documents).

Elle a travaillé pour différentes bibliothèques dont celle de l'Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, puis plusieurs année pour le Conseil national de recherche du Canada (CNRC), qui compte des instituts de recherche scientifique à travers tout le Canada.

Elle a remporté en 1981 le concours littéraire La Plume saguenéenne dans la catégorie science-fiction pour sa nouvelle « Cosmose », le second prix du concours du meilleur texte de trois pages du module des lettres de l’Université du Québec à Chicoutimi en 1988 et ...more

Danielle Tremblay said: " In a twisted adaptation of Robinson Crusoe, the story's protagonist, Robert Maitland, a wealthy architect, crashes his Jaguar one afternoon, marooning himself on a small traffic "island", some two hundred yards long and triangular in shape, that lay In a twisted adaptation of Robinson Crusoe, the story's protagonist, Robert Maitland, a wealthy architect, crashes his Jaguar one afternoon, marooning himself on a small traffic "island", some two hundred yards long and triangular in shape, that lay in the waste ground between three converging motorway routes(a section of fenced-off wasteland in the middle of a motorway intersection) between the Westway and an imagined spur of the M4 Motorway in west London, and is forced to survive on only what is in his crashed Jaguar and what he is able to find. Injured and hidden from the passing motorists, Maitland finds himself stranded there and he and the island slowly withdraw into his own skull. Even the omniscient narrator internalize. He becomes closer to Maitland who says:
(p. 25), "...the whole city was now asleep, part of an immense unconscious Europe, while he himself crawled about on a forgotten traffic island like the nightmare of this slumbering continent";
(p. 70), "I am the island".

"Modern technology, as I tried to show in Crash… offers an endless field day to any deviant strains in our personalities. Marooned…on a traffic island, we can tyrannise ourselves, test our strengths and weaknesses, perhaps come to terms with aspects of our characters to which we have always closed our eyes."

Maitland is confronted with the best and worst aspects of his inner being represented by the woman and the simpleton he meets on the island, and the island itself (the 'borrowing' from Robinson Crusoe is apparent – Ballard fully acknowledges it).

Maitland says (page 175): "He would stay there until he could escape by his own efforts". But he doesn't want or can't leave the island since he became part of it, the king of this strange wasteland.

This is an outlandish story of rejection of the "normal" world and appropriation of a more intimate world. Maitland's experience transformed him to his most basic, animalistic self.

This is not my favorite Ballard's story. So I was tempted to give it 4 stars. Then I thought 4½. And finally, I rounded it to 5. ...more "

So your French is better than most.
I have seen a Danny Tyran amongst Goodread members. I don't know if he is the authors of those books. I loved them, particularly "Esclave à l'entraînement". If I was better in English, I'd volonteer to translate them. But I would need 100 years to finish the translation.

Emma, do you know how Goodreads began? Is there a little history of the website somewhere? I am curious.
