Sorry for the delay in replying, I've only just noticed your question. As far as I know, Lion Hudson haven't gone under, but they do seem to be cutting back on their adult fiction line, and have indicated to me that they are not interested in publishing any more of my 'Local' series of novels. Which is of course a bit of a disappointment, especially as I have number 4 completed and ready to go! I am looking around for another publisher or agent, but nothing yet, and there are a number of family matters that have had to take precedence, so it may be a while before I can get back to this.(less)

Arc of Life: A literary Experiment

A little while ago I read an article about different genres. In it, a famous author (I think it was George R. R. Martin, but I haven’t been able to find the article to be sure) said that all stories were basically the same: different genre’s merely changed ‘the furniture’ around. So a story with blasters and starships would be SF, but the same basic plot written with six-guns and stage coaches wou Read more of this blog post »

One of the things that fascinates me about good historical fiction is how it gives an insight into the way things happened back in the past, the way things were done which were quite normal then but may seem strange or even bizarre to us now.

C.S. Lewis
“To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.”
