Manata Hashemi is a sociologist and Associate Professor of Iranian Studies at the University of Oklahoma. Her research and writing centers experiences of poverty, inequality, and stigma, particularly in the Middle East.

Her writing and work have appeared in the Conversation, Muftah, Qualitative Sociology, and the International Journal of Urban and Regional Studies, among others.
