The few remaining war criminals are still being hunted down, tried, prosecuted and punished by the German government, Belsen played only a small part in the annals of horror but it is entirely understandable that those who witnessed the liberation and its aftermath were troubled by their experiences for the rest of their lives and found it so hard to forgive.”

“As they approached Belsen they were struck by how peaceful everything seemed. The war obviously hadn't reached that part of Germany. Cows grazed in the lush green fields and the rural community went about their business as if nothing would disturb their lives. On arrival at Belsen the circumstances couldn't have provided a greater contrast. What these young soldiers found when they reached the camp was almost beyond belief.”
