My apologies for the delay in answering. Not really familiar w the Goodreads set-up, and never saw this question -- if this is even you!

Thanks for the kind words. I do not review books professionally, probably because I am sure I would miss what the author thought was made evident. (I am reminded of the constant refrain of my ninth-grade English teacher, Miss Grumet (who loaned me her copy of Tommy): "Notice the Christ image.")

On that: I prefer the book In a Lonely Place, by Dorothy B. Hughes, over the film, a highly-regarded noir. However, I prefer the film version of her excellent book Ride the Pink Horse, and, far as I can tell, am the only person who truly understands what the film is all about. Check it out. Cheers.(less)

Forty years ago I would have said Nick and Nora Charles, then I gradually realized both were lushes. (And his calling her "Mommy" really grates.) I would have gone w Travis McGee and anyone else -- but there never was anyone else. (Travis McGee and Busted Flush?)

So... I'll go with... ... ... George and Ann Smiley. (The great line at the end of the BBC Tinker, Tailor: "Poor, George. Life is such a puzzle to you, isn't it?")

(And Oliver Lacon dryly noted that George would have run Ann much better had she been his “agent instead of [his] wife."(less)

Little Snitches

Did you know?? September 25 was National “If you see something, say something” Awareness Day.

Back in the 60’s there was on American television an extraordinary program called The Fugitive. It was extraordinary for several reasons. First was the performance of David Janssen as Dr. Richard Kimble, aka the fugitive, falsely accused of killing his wife. Several times per episode you’d find yourself va Read more of this blog post »

You've read my blog on the 150-year-old Dickens typo?
