Hello, Sharon. My apologies for the delay in answering. Not really familiar w the Goodreads set-up, and never saw this question -- if this is even you!
Thanks for the kind words. I do not review books professionally, probably because I am sure I would miss what the author thought was made evident. (I am reminded of the constant refrain of my ninth-grade English teacher, Miss Grumet (who loaned me her copy of Tommy): "Notice the Christ image.")
On that: I prefer the book In a Lonely Place, by Dorothy B. Hughes, over the film, a highly-regarded noir. However, I prefer the film version of her excellent book Ride the Pink Horse, and, far as I can tell, am the only person who truly understands what the film is all about. Check it out. Cheers.
