Whilst you're in the middle of it, that fictional world is your world. I'm about to start my fourth novel and the characters are having conversations in my head, times, places, various happenings are waiting to escape to the page - that is by far the best and most exciting thing about being a writer! I have used bio's, in particular emotional bio's to add more layers, but generally, their voice will grow as the novel progresses, and as I dig deeper into their choices and the life they led before the story begins. I am often surprised by the direction some of my characters take, and sometimes, I have been very lucky, and the voice appears almost complete from day one. I think every good writer will know when a character is working well, as do readers, and once you have that, then their relationships with others in the fictional world, will be as natural as the development of relationships in the real world. I hope this answers your question. Best and warmest wishes, Louise(less)

“One man’s truth is another man’s lie.”
Louise Phillips, Red Ribbons

“Memory, Clodagh, is rather suspect in our conscious mind. People think they store memories in a particular way, that they don't change, but we're constantly updating our memory, or perception of it, creating layers, obscuring the original, until what we actually believe happened can differ dramatically from the truth.”
Louise Phillips, The Doll's House
