Tilia Klebenov Jacobs holds a BA from Oberlin College, where she double-majored in Religion and English with a concentration in Creative Writing. Following an interregnum as an outdoor educator with the Fairfax County Park Authority in Virginia, she earned a Master of Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School and a Secondary School Teaching Certification from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Despite lacking the ability to breathe fire except in the strictly metaphorical sense, Tilia has taught middle school, high school, and college. It's about the Great Migration of African-Americans out of the South between 1915 and 1970. I was lucky enough to meet the author at a writers' conference, and I was profoundly impressed with her elegance and erudition. I'm excited for this book!(less)

The Cuckoo's Calling

The Cuckoo's Calling (Cormoran Strike, #1) The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Now that the pseudonym's out of the bag, I hope Mr. Galbraith takes another spin around the tome. This was a classic yet modern detective tale, complete with an indispensable Girl Friday and a twisted family history that writhes to the surface in the form of...well, never mind; that would be a spoiler. Heinlien wrote the first SF book I ever read, and still one of my favorites: Have Space Suit, Will Travel. I think his early stuff was his best. Favorite dead mystery writer is the peerless Robert B. Parker; favorite living mystery writer is a new discovery for me: Craig Johnson, who writes the Longmire series. I've reviewed a couple of his books, so you can certainly get my take on him. His main character is Spenser with a Stetson.

Jennifer McLean J.K. is definitely a great choice, I just loved her Potter series, ended up reading it twice. Once for me and once aloud to a young family friend. My favorite dead author has to be Robert A. Heinlien, father of science fiction. I've unfortunately never found a science fiction author who kept my interest except him. As for best dead mystery author, it'd probably have to be John D. MacDonald. His Travis McGee P.I. was just so well written. Ahh, and I just noticed we both like Robert B. Parker. We seem to have similar tastes. Have a great upcoming weekend!
