It was all quite spontaneous. Back then, his teacher asked all of the students what they wanted to be when they grew up, and while many students chose “doctor”, or “lawyer”, or “astronaut,” Richard, wanting to be funny, chose “drag queen garbage man”. It wasn’t until his peers starting reading off their choices that Richard decided that it would probably behoove him to write down another profession. He has stuck with “novelist” ever since.

Richard has a love of movies, video games, and comic books, and all three influences come through in his writing

In the end, the kids are much better for us being in the classroom. :) Thanks again!(less)

It's Okay To Think Blade Runner Sucks

Blade Runner is one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time. It's the "thinking man's" sci-fi film. Ridley Scott is a genius, and Harrison Ford has never been better.

Except none of that is true. At least not for me. Blade Runner is a boring, meandering, mess of a movie, and I hate it, even if you love it. Sure, everybody talks about it like Jesus Christ Himself was behind the camera when it was Read more of this blog post »

It was okay. It got a bit tiresome after awhile. It was rather short, but still felt too long. Give me Richard Wright any day of the week over Chester Himes.

This is one of those, I don't know what's going on kinda of books, but it reads like poetry...and some of it is in second person. It almost feels like a jazz record. If it had a more melodious flow, I might have liked it more, but it's a bit jarring ...more

Heartfelt, wonderful, and with a good message on the power of motherhood. My one complaint is that it drags toward the middle.
