She's the older woman boss, the guru.He's the protege, her pupil, under her strict tutelage.
There's this chemistry between them, not quite mother and son, but teacher- student and he longs to be with her, than the wife.
His best moments of the day are working the case, challenging Vera.
Her best ones are proving him wrong, teaching him and feeling proud, when he thinks like her or is right. Their banter and not so on the nose dialogue, is fantastic. Ann Cleeves created wonderful characters.(less)
