I’m writing weird short fiction for my collection The Queen in Yellow. And I’m rewriting my next novel, Brief Pose, about an advertisement campaign that makes people lose themselves in fantasy, which should be released this summer.(less)

Initially, the idea was a combination of my two favorite children’s books, The Thief of Always and Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. I wanted to do something like those books, only with more adults themes.

Fast forward quite a few years into the creative process. Pinsleep, the witness angel, was a framing device that I invented later on that took on a life of his own, inspired by a lot of my own musings on religion and faith. The Garden of Eden was always a feature of the series but was initially revealed much later in the plot. Once I created Pinsleep, the conclusion of the series hit me like a bolt of lightning, and I discovered where I had to start my story.(less)

The Sluts by Dennis Cooper Review

The Sluts by Dennis Cooper

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

CriminOlly is a BookTuber that specializes in crime, pulp, and horror. He has talked a lot about disturbing books.

I was watching one of his reading updates, and he was in the middle of The Sluts by Dennis Cooper, so I decided to give it a shot. A recent disturbing book that I really liked was Exquisite Corpse by Poppy Z. Brite, so I thought I wo

"I’ve had this book in my tbr for what feels like a million years. I think I might finally try to read it.

Later: I’m calling it a day at 25%. It’s boring me to death. The characters are aggravating me, except for the two young boys - they seem ok so f" Read more of this review »

Gone to See the River Man by Kristopher Triana
"An absolute butchering of the human spirit.
Bled, cut, cleaned and delivered.
I wouldn't recommend this book to my worst enemy.
But its storytelling is better than some of the best novels I've ever read, the imagery and folklore is savoury and rich and " Read more of this review »

"Ballard accurately predicted the internet and social media.
Look around, we're all in the High-Rise now.
One of the most disturbing and socially observant novels of all time.
So disturbing because of just how observant it is. "

“The Kitten poster reminds me of Blake Snyder’s SAVE THE CAT! The Last Book on Screenwriting That You’ll Ever Need, which has a cover with a similar image. I hope the kitten falls to its death. This hope is not born out of maliciousness, but sympathy. What's the point of hanging in there if no one's going to save you? The little fucker can only hang on for so long.”
Wesley McCraw, Brief Pose

“[Professor] Frank recalled my idle remark some years ago: 'Never pass up the opportunity to have sex or appear on television.' Advice I would never give today in the age of AIDS and its television equivalent Fox News.”
Gore Vidal, Point to Point Navigation

“Ayn Rand's 'philosophy' is nearly perfect in its immorality, which makes the size of her audience all the more ominous and symptomatic as we enter a curious new phase in our society.... To justify and extol human greed and egotism is to my mind not only immoral, but evil.”
Gore Vidal

“Whatever it takes to finish things, finish. You will learn more from a glorious failure than you ever will from something you never finished.”
Neil Gaiman

“How, then, does one become an activist?

The easy answer would be to say that we do not become activists; we simply forget that we are. We are all born with compassion, generosity, and love for others inside us. We are all moved by injustice and discrimination. We are all, inside, concerned human beings. We all want to give more than to receive. We all want to live in a world where solidarity and companionship are more important values than individualism and selfishness. We all want to share beautiful things; experience joy, laughter, love; and experiment, together.”
Noam Chomsky, On Palestine
