Writing is a creative process, so for me, it's best to walk away for a while than try to force it. I go for a walk, have a meal, play a game, watch youtube, or sometimes I shut down my computer and come back to it the next day. All of these activities gives me time to jostle ideas around in my head, so the next time I sit down, the words flow.

Also, having someone to talk to about your plot, characters, and problems, with can really help. When I have major issues to work out for my books, I get a babysitter and take my husband out to dinner. We sit with a cocktail and have a long meal, while I usually take copious notes. Getting another's perspective on your story is always a good thing! I can choose to incorporate his ideas, or not, but it's always good to have more options!(less)

The beginning is always the…moreMy best advice is to not over think it. Starting a new venture can be scary, so if you want to be a writer, start writing. The beginning is always the hardest, so don't worry that you don't have a perfect prologue, just start writing!! Write anything! You may end up trashing it, or it might be literary gold... you never know until you type the words.

Once you have a manuscript you're happy with (this may take months or years) find an editor! I can't stress how important this is for a writer. You can find one online, or ask around. I found my editor through a mutual friend, and he's wonderful. Half the price of the ones I found online, and our styles mesh well.

Once you find a couple of editors, they should give you a free sample edit of your work. When I was choosing editors, I sent them all the 1st chapter of my book. When you get them back, you'll see how each person edits completely differently! Find the one that matches your style the most- don't let price be the only factor in choosing one over the others.
