Daisy bumps into Luanne and her baby and son in the grocery store parking lot in "Crazy On Daisy", and I started to become fascinated by this young woman who had chosen a marriage and so much responsibility at a young age. I was a young mom myself, so I understood the tension Luanne might feel between giving herself to her husband and children without ever really learning about herself. It was understandable that the pressures in this marriage: youth, money, family demands, would cause tension. So I fell in love with the premise of the story. What I didn't expect was that I'd also fall in love with Janie and Kyle. Giving Luanne a brother who was recently back from Afghanistan, and creating an attraction between a hurting Kyle and Janie, who appears so perfectly "normal" also fascinated me. It wasn't until I had written a few scenes between Kyle and Janie that I realized what Janie's internal conflict might be. (less)

“I know you think I’ve behaved like a cad, so I’m coming clean. I love you, Tess. I have for a long time. I ache for you. Every morning I wake up, wishing you were in my arms. Back when Cassie was at her mom’s, I was relieved to be thinking about you and not her so much anymore, until I realized it meant that I was in love with you. I fell for you that first morning, when I saw you coming out of the garage with Dave. I couldn’t tell you the other day, but I wanted you to know.” He leaned in and kissed her cheek. “Maybe I have been protecting myself, but mostly, I wanted to protect you.”
Lilly Christine, Crashing into Tess

“Arms still crossed, Lindsay's clogs tapped on the sidewalk. “So Sam didn’t tell you I was a desperate orphan child with no life outside of work? This isn’t some kind of intervention, some kind of lame attempt to cheer me up?”
He grinned.“Why would she do that?”
“Because that’s how it sounded.”
Nudging her shoulder, he grinning down at her. “You don’t look desperate, Dr. Lindsay, not by a long shot."
“That’s because you don’t know me.” Lindsay bit her lower lip, arms still crossed, clogs still tap-tap-tapping. Her chest heaved. “My parent’s died in a car accident almost two years ago. It’s a difficult thing to get over. I’m still not exactly right. I guess she worries about me.”
Ty sucked in his breath, thinking fast. “I’m really sorry about your parents, Linds.”
As he put an arm around her shoulder, she broke into a self-conscious smile and shook her head. “Spend any time with me at all and you’ll find that Sam’s right. I’m a desperate orphan child, completely paranoid and irrepressibly horny.”
“Whoa!”
She looked so cute, but vulnerable, too. He closed the arm around her shoulder, squeezing her sideways to his chest. Embarrassed, she smiled as she elbowed his rib. Then she dropped her arms and stayed put, tucked close against him. It felt right, having her there.”
